This story started in the very same city.. Mumbai..
For every tall sky scaper, for every sprawling mansion there is a basti, there is a chawl, there is Dharavi.
The seeds of this story were sown in one such basti. Sagar Kutir,a basti by sea side, a basti teeming with people who like every ordinary everyday common man who stand in serpentine line and wait for the municipality "nal" to go geneerous on them. who would fight for the place in queue, abuse the system and jump up in joy at the first rush of water from that "nal".
In that basti a family of four resided.
The Mahales.
Ganpat:
The drunkard, unemployed, shifty man who dreams of owning a "Daaru ka Adda" and making his son the owner of his "company". he lost his job during weavers strike and is now living off his wife and drowing his sorrows in daaro and fights with her occationally. but loves his kids and his wife in his failed way.
Baabi:
the Loud mouthed, sweet, strong, emotional lady who acts first, thinks later, who wants to protect her kids the way she thought was right, works for sustaining her family and is a tigress of a mother.
Nakusha:
The lady named nakusha, the unwanted. A scary looking girl, an ugly duckling. one who tooks all the mockeries, insults in her stride but never showed her pain. who loved her mother and family. One who wanted to dream but knew she is not allowed to.
Sethji:
the brother. a young lad who acts like man of the house. a charmer who goes "dhin chak dhin chaka" when happy and hugs his mom when sad. loves his mom and is protective of his sister. An adorable little brother.
The mahales of the basti and this story started with them..
