portrayal of women

Lately, have felt very strongly about this so I decided to share my thoughts.

SP Directors genuinely feel that they are showing 'Saloni' as a strong character who stands up for her own as well as other's rights. They have also portrayed as Brajesh, Nahar, Tara, Bhabho as 'good' 'fair' 'decent' human beings.

However, I feel the problem is that at a very fundamental level they have not accepted Saloni as a family member. Either that or they feel they can ride rough shod on her simply because she is simple and poor and not good looking. Hence, they do not tell her about Nahar's past; do nothing to prevent her from going away; do no damage control by way of talking to her parents, apologising, explaining etc. They knew this would be her reaction - so, they were prepared for a short termed marriage ??? To last as long as she doesn't know ????

And then, when she does tell nahar to surrender himself, pile on to her. Good God. And who is the leader of the pack - our own Aditi, who really hasn't a leg to stand on.

And after her one time when Saloni raises her voice against Brajesh, both Bhabho and Tara [ not to mention even nahar in jail ] pile on to her. What nerve!

I am not happy with this luke warm handling of a so called ' strong ' personality.

WHAT DO U SAY

I hate most that they have never accepted Saloni the way they accepted Tara. Bhabho calls Saloni beta and does not tell her secret or turns away when saloni raises her voice. Tara raises her voice so many times then it is ok. Saloni is very strong character and I pretty much identify with her. Some battles you have to fight alone, when you have no one's support and you know you are right and God will always be with you. So I don't see any unreal thing in that. What they are trying to show here that despite everyone's opposition saloni is doing what she believes is right.
Aditi is totally out of control and needs to be thrown away with taht free loader Dheer.

Yeah... I totally agree with your views and especially about Aditi. In one of the episodes she says that they forgave Saloni for not telling them that her sister was getting married and was pregnant (very big of them .. and it was not as if they did it readily.. Saloni had to literally fall and beg at their feet to ask for forgiveness for something her sister did) and that now it is Saloni's turn to forgive for keeping such a big secret from her! God, what is this lady talking about? How can she even compare the two? Even when Saloni confronts them, they all look down shame faced but don't even try to explain their actions!
I guess, in some way it reflects the society that we live in. The financially rich (morally poor) think that they can get away with anything, even murder, and the poor and the "have nots" have to put up with their snobbishness and consider themselves lucky to even get a chance to rub shoulders with the "haves"!!! And Aditi is a "pucca" representative of such snobbishness

For some "Rather Strange" reason, every TV serial in India projects WOMEN as OBJECT. In every TV serial women are Treated really bad by their husbands or In-laws or who ever they have around them and NO one objects to it (the audience that is watching some how accepts this rather rude behavior).

I wonder why women are projected as helpless, weak, indecisive, at the mercy of husband/in-laws/parents for all financial needs and need constant approval for every little thing. Then all of a sudden they become strong or Some of the characters projected are like those of a "Devi".

IN every household in our every day lives there are "kaveris/Kakisa/Jigyasa etc" kind of people. It would be a good idea to show solutions to these kind of people rather than always highlight them.

I feel Indian Women need to be projected in better light, an Indian woman has come a long way.

I do totally agree with that. They should show the way to deal with them rather than giving so much attention to them.

I have not seen saat phere.. just follow the episodes. I am tired of reading the cliched dialogues of ghar ki izzat being uttered every minute.
I do think Saloni made a mistake by not getting details out of Nahar before she went all bersek with the the court drama. But at least they showed that Saloni can make mistakes and that is what I liked. She is now trying to make up for her hasty act. But I cannot understand why the family members treat her like dirt. Agreed Nahar is in jail, then why is Brijesh not doing anything to get him out. Crying in the jail with the brother will not get him out now, will it???

Like Kalpana said, we have negative characters everywhere, they show nothing about how to deal with them and by the end of it, it will be like all the evil characters will apologize and everybody will be happy... that is not how it happens in our lives.
I agree some amount of dramatization is required to make sure the point is driven home.. but in this case of Salon, I fail to understand what the point that is being driven home??

i totally agree with you...tats what, i too wonder many times! why these directors and story tellers highlight evil so much...? in that wat are they trying to teach/tell the society? that good suffers always..even if they have good moments, they dont last for a long time...where as evil always victorious..no1 can touch her/him. they always succeed in whatever they do or conspire. directors are giving a very bad message to ppl. dont they have any responsibility at all?

if you take these (in)famous K serials...according to ekta her soaps show indian culture. but if you think carefully, what indian culture she is projecting? other than showing kadwa chaut, n wearing designer saris n jewellery...wat othr culture she is showing...each person can get married minimum 3 or 4 times??? or its ok to have affairs with ny1 you like...i think, ekta has to think again!!

If u take saath phere, none of the characters othr than saloni, has ny standard thinking. they just dont have ability to think. they just characters, float in the direction of air!! sad! how can aditi forget how saloni saved her son??? how can brijesh forget that...how can kakii sa forget tat saloni saved kaki sa from a police case?? i feel that, all these characters are suffering with selective amnesia! they just conveniently forget everything. its all rather stupid!

One more thing which i cant stand is, in Kasham se serial(ZEE), whenever Ranveer's(supposed to be an evil character) comes on the screen, the "mrityunjaya" mantra is played. this mantra is supposed to be very very sacred n powerful ! so, the use of this mantra for ranveer disturbs me a lot ! i am not being fanatic or religious. but certain respect has to be given to certain things. one cant use certain sacred things as they please...atleast not for some "evil" character!!

something has to be done surely...but who will bell the cat??

I agree - they should not use the 'maha mritunjay' mantra with Ranvir. It is very powerful and sacred and Ranvir stands for neither. Besides, it is a life saver; totally out of context here.
