STAR RANKING CRITERIA |
The star rankings are based on box office gross figures for the first weekend. The first weekend is the biggest barometer for star power, from Monday the box office collection is dependent more on how the public takes to a film rather than star power. The rankings are based purely on opening weekend gross collections and do not take anything else into account. CRITERIA INDIA 1. Extended/Special appearances and delayed films are not included. Films that have a smaller release than normal are also not included as they have little chance of getting near thresholds. 2. Threshold figures are set at a rate which would be regarded as a good weekend for that respective time. 3. One point is give for every 10 lakhs that a film crosses the threshold. One point is taken off every 10 lakh that a film stays below the threshold. Eg Threshold 20 cr, Weekend Gross 24.50 cr means 45 points. 4. The points stay for 18 months from release date. After 18 months 5% of the points is deducted every month so after 38 months the film's value becomes zero and is not included in the chart. Films with minus values have 5% added after 18 months so their value is also zero after 38 months. If the film has a value of zero its stays as it is for the whole 38 months. An 18 month old film has less value to the current star situation but cannot also be washed away and so it is slowly petered out in the BoxOfficeIndia.Com rankings. 5. The Thresholds (Gross Figures) 2007 4th Quarter - 19 crore 2008 1st Quarter - 20 crore 2nd Quarter - 21 crore 3rd Quarter - 22 crore 4th Quarter - 23 crore 2009 1st Quarter - 24.25 crore 2nd Quarter - 25.50 crore 3rd Quarter - 26.75 crore 4th Quarter - 28 crore 2010 1st Quarter - 29.50 crore 2nd Quarter - 31 crore 3rd Quarter - 32.50 crore 4th Quarter - 34 crore 2011 1st Quarter - 35.50 crore 2nd Quarter - 37 crore 3rd Quarter - 38.50 crore 4th Quarter - 40 crore 6. A film will come into the system on the second Thursday after its release. The chart is updated fortnightly Thursday. CRITERIA OVERSEAS 1. Extended/Special appearances and delayed films are not included. Films that have a smaller release than normal are also not included as they have little chance of getting near thresholds. 2. Threshold figures are set at a rate which would be regarded as a good weekend for that respective time. 3. One point is give for every US $10,000 that a film crosses the threshold. One point is taken off every US $10,000 that a film stays below the threshold. Eg Threshold US $2 million, Weekend Gross US $2.5 million means 50 points. 5. The Thresholds (Gross Figures) 2007 - US $1.5 million 2008 - US $1.7 million 2009 - US $2.0 million 2010 - US $2.3 million 2011 - US $2.3 million 6. A film will come into the system on the second Thursday after its release. The chart is updated late Thursday every month. CRITERIA WORLDWIDE The points of India and Overseas are added but only 40% of Overseas points are taken for Worldwide rankings as Overseas market is valued at around 40% of India on average. This figures will change as and if the markets change. NOTE This threshold system based to rank box office power will favour actors who do less work as stars who have multiple releases have more chances of delivering a poor opener which delivers minus points and it will take over 3 years before the film is out of the ranking system. Release Count is the number of releases which are being used and not the total releases in last 38 months as many of those may be smaller movies, delayed movies or guest roles which are mainly used from a selling point of view of a film but with electronic media all over the public is fully aware about the film. |
