I honestly don't know why Filmfare is even compared with The Academy Awards. I mean, whenever there's a media blurb about it... it's "the equivalent of the Oscars for India." No, it really isn't. In no way shape or form.

It's more like... the People's Choice Awards... if even that comparison fits.

As for Indian Awards... almost all of them are a joke. I guess the National Awards got its shit together recently. But as for ceremonies with red carpets and all, all of them are a big damn joke. I've caught glimpses of Awards (Film and/or Television) of other countries. And yes, while they too have had controversies and such, they are still all much classier and less of a joke than most of these Indian Awards.

All stars have gigantic egos, and big award shows based purely on how well films are marketed to the academy is JUST as self-congratulatory as the filmfare award - but but but, Hollywood has a knack for displaying it self with ease and class. Everyone is professional, the award show also belongs to 'everyone there'. Unlike Filmfare where the awards belong specifically to a gang of 4 or 5 actors with one ringleader repeatedly being thrown at our face (Yes. Shah Rukh).

Why do our actors host? we see them all freaking year in films, promotions, interviews, etc - hosting should be kept aside for comedians - they would provide real entertainment and would move the show along with the lens of an 'outsider' looking into the film industry.

I grew up watching the OSCARS, but off late even the oscars have been filled with garbage film entries - W*F happened this year? so many nonsense nominations based on connections and underhanded marketing towards the academy (prime example : extremely loud and incredibly close). Also. Billy Crystal wasn't very good at all. Not to mention the disaster that the Oscars were last year (James Franco and Anne Hathaway may have been the 2 worst oscars hosts ever).

So yeah. I think filmfare has a longgg way to go before we reach the same status of the Oscars. In several ways, may it be presentation, conduct, the entries themselves, etc. But the Oscar's are not perfect either. In-fact they get worst with every passing year.

thankyou for saying this!!! billy crystal WAS BAD!!! he simply lost his mojo. plus that shitty "hehe its supposed to be funny" crap between Paltrow/ Downey and Stone/Stiller was annoying as f**k!

i was sitting there thinking to myself- WHAT happened to Oscars??? ( dont get me started on Franco/Hathaway... snooze fest!).. the only redeeming thing was Dujardin and Streep's win. everything was AWFUL.

I have a question: why arent Filmfare/IIFA ( the only two seemingly credible awards ) Live?

^^ If the awards and reality show competitions were live as their equivalents (or so-called equivalents) are in other countries, they wouldn't be able to get edit, exaggerate and rig as much as they do now.

Yes live shows are also edited in a certain way--especially reality competitions. But I'd rather that than the crap we have to deal with.

Everytime I watch a bollywood awards show, I feel like I am watching a joke!! I actually dont seem to care who is winning what, because it just does not feel real...since SRK started hosting the awards, it looks more like a circus...This time the FF was a tad better than the previous ones..I was very impressed with Shaan's performance, it was innovative! We need more performances like that and not just actors prancing to item numbers every year! I rem. Johny Lever doing a stand up show..it was the best ever!! It was really old and he was joking about people's reaction when Michael Jackson had come to India for his show..it was hilarious!!

I think the oscars classy. As far as nominations go...I dont abt others but sandra bullock was awesome in the blind side, u need not cry buckets or play a serious role to get an oscar , u can get it for playing a confident mom.
meryl streep's speech was just grt, hher dialogue of people would say "not again" then followd by " whatever" was sooo true and striaght from the heart.
and I want to say Bollywood is not equal to indian cinema...
but bollywood awards are sooo disorganized, I mean why cant they get a decent host, proper time management and no rigging.

there was a time when FF were really classy, entertaining and the jokes were hillarious! however not anymore! now they are crude and boring! Bollywood has started to really dissapoint me! this year's hosting by Srk/Ranbir was not good, some jokes were too crude and some fell flat on the face! nothing unique or great about this year's FF! and the stupid movie Srk/Ranbir made was very LS!

Just because it's in the damned west doesn't mean it was better. Oscar doesn't even know what it wants. Last year they had 'the youthful' going for them and apparently this was actively offensive and racist jokes. (Billy Crystal stopped being relevant and funny long time ago).

The highlight was probably when Chris Rock said what he did about racial representation in Hollywood. Because Oscars made it seem like Viola was going to win, but ding~ we can't have a POC win both Supporting AND Best Actress (because how was Meryl's performance better than Viola's if we take the problematic aspect of the narratives and existence of Help asides).

Having 94% white men and 77% + men at least over 60's pretty much determines who's going to win. because that's so damned innovative.

btw, egos are not something that only indian cinema (bollywood specifically) holds. nepotism isn't something uniquely bollywood either.

if it's supposed to be truly about cinematic experiences where was Pariah. It's just about who markets for the awards the most a la Natalie Portman last year.

The Bollywood syndrome strikes. Soon we will see camps in Hollywood too. Ambani is to be blamed.

Angelina Jolie 'angry over Oscar ridicule'

Angelina Jolie is reportedly furious at being mocked for her outrageous posing at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

The 36-year-old actress looked ravishing in the black velvet Atelier Versace gown with a thigh-high slit she wore to the prestigious ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles but her strange pose of sticking out her right leg has been the subject of much ridicule.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, after 'The Descendants' writer Jim Rash mimicked her stance as he took to the stage to collect the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, Jolie was heard snapping ''Who is that guy?''

"She was still pretty steamed but seemed to calm down quickly," Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

The 'Lara Croft' star's puzzling behaviour also resulted in a twitter page being set up, called AngiesRightLeg.

Tweets from the spoof account which has over 30,000 followers include "Great meeting most of you for the first time last night at the Oscars!!" and "Left leg and I talked - everything's cool. Next Oscars, she gets the slit."
