Geet washed her face in the luxurious washroom that was attached to her father's cabin. She pulled on the napkin hanging on the wall and dabbed at her face. She looked at her image. It was a sight she found unfamiliar. The person staring back at her looked haggard and drained. She had never looked at her face that objectively, before. She smoothened her forehead and tried smiling. Her face refused to crease into the same lines that it used to, when she smiled. She took a deep breath and tried again.
No Luck.
It had been a fortnight ever since she had shifted to the office. Her days were spent poring over files, speaking to her father over the phone for his opinion and asking Maan for advice. She called Maan more often. Calling her father frequently, when he was recuperating, was not a good idea. He wanted her to call more, but she evaded the issue whenever he brought it up. Just the way she evaded the issue of his ill health. She hadn't told him yet, that the reason behind him being in the hospital was for heart trouble. Now that she had lived in his shoes for a few days, she knew exactly where the ill health was coming from.
The studio had been forgotten in light of the piles of work that needed to be done. She had been there only twice, and Vicky had been gracious enough to overlook her absence.
She missed it.
She missed the control she had over her moves, the students she taught, the high she felt when she danced, the way her heart beat to the music, the smell of the studio at the end of the day. But she never let herself mull over it. She couldn't afford to.
She looked back at the mirror. There was a line between her eyebrows now ' the scowl seemed customary, off late. She couldn't shake off the new demeanour. It felt like betrayal.
Only the day before, one of Nanima's kitty friends had commented that, Geet finally looked, how she should at her age. She was 25 now. Was that how 25 year olds looked? Felt? Who decided these things?
With a sigh she walked out.

The challenge had come the following day. Sasha the head architect was proving to be a pain. The fact that the Officiating Director was not as qualified as she was, didn't seem to sit well with her. Having a gossipy ninny in the form of Tasha, at her side didn't help either. They seemed to have embarked on a No-Help policy, making trouble for her at all levels of the office work. It didn't help that Geet had been a part of the office team earlier with Nik. The fact that Nik had been appreciated more than her, was not forgotten by the staff. The bad vibes continued to waft towards her daily, but it was only Sasha who actually tried to create trouble. The others, despite their dissatisfaction, still respected her father enough to bear with her.
And as always, It never rained but poured, and amidst all the office drama, she had a big deal to make. The clients had demanded another presentation, about a housing complex that Handa constructions was in charge of. She couldn't figure out where her day began and where it ended.
**********************************
She poured and squinted through every file there was, related to that particular project. She had barely slept those nights and had almost memorized all there was to know in the files. Since it was Sasha who was to present the plan to the clients, she had insisted Sasha load the presentation on the office computer. She had watched through the one-way glass from her office, that gave her a view of the conference room clearly. After office hours, she had made three back-ups of the files. Her faith in Sasha was diminishing by the day and mistakes were not what she could afford.
She didn't know when it was that her instinct had become so strong. She was as certain that Sasha was up to mischief, as she was certain that the sky appeared blue and water was wet. As frustration surged up, she thought back to the various things she could do to ensure that the presentation would go well
Leaning back in her chair, she let the events of the week hit her. Never had she faced so much frustration. Having always aced at whatever she wished, finding herself inadequate for the first time came as a rude awakening. She worried that she'd spoil things at the office, that the staff would hate her more if she tried to be the boss anymore than she was being, that her father would be disappointed in her, that Maan would be disappointed. She hated losing, but then again, she had never really fought for anything that hard. She had always rebelled things her way.
She rubbed her hands on the forehead, trying to ease out the pressure building there. There would be no sleep for her tonight, also. Not until the presentation was done. She wondered how many more sleepless nights would she face, never having any minute free with the ever piling work.
The following morning she was the first to walk in, startling the watchman from his sleep. Watching him enjoy his sleep while on duty, fuelled her temper, leading her to give him an earful at the crack of dawn.
The office doors had started trickling in employees. The presentation being the first thing on the agenda, had all the preparations ready. She asked Sasha to be sent in, intending to speak to her with as much politeness possible, in order to entreat her to do a good job. After waiting impatiently for the next quarter of an hours, she grabbed the phone and summoned Tasha.
The girl shuffled in, examining her nails. It was at times like these, when Geet wondered how the girl had come by the job.
"Where is Sasha? Please send her in.", she asked before Tasha could raise her witless eyes to her.
" But Geet Ma'am, she's not here yet...she comes by 10 everyday. "
"How can she report at 10 when she knows she has a presentation to make at 9:30 today?', she shot back, by now positively livid.
The girl scuttled off under her furious glare. Her hand reached the phone as she ordered the secretary to connect her to Sasha's number. The answer to her opening question confirmed what she had known all along.
Sasha was not going to show up!

So we do have Sasha here to create trouble.. Is there any plan of merging Handa with Khurana construction? That way both Geet and Maan can handle stuff..
Loved the update..
