Sayantani Ghosh made waves with her show Naagin on Zee but after that she took a sabbatical from daily soaps. She was last seen in Adaalat on Sony. Now, the actress has decided to play a mother of eight-year-old in a new show Meri Maa.
Looks like you are back to the typical rona-dhona with Meri Maa.
Yes, it is rona-dhona but it is not a typical drama. This show is about the mother-daughter relationship. The show is based on the universal bond between a mother and a child and everyone can relate to it. The story has lot of potential and my character has a definite graph. Obviously, I'm crying in the initial episodes since I've lost my daughter.
Were you hesitant about playing a mom on screen?
I feel TV has really moved forward. Shows like Bade Aache Lagte Hai or Kya Hua Tera Vaada have fresh, new stories. My character is more or less the same age as me. Honestly, I didn't have any problem playing a role of a mother because it is absolutely brilliant.
There was news of Naagin coming with another season. Any development on that front?
I have heard the news too; but I have no clue of its progress. When the first season was wrapped up, I was told that this is a seasonal break and we would return with the second season in six months. Now, it has been two years and there is still no news.
In these two years, why did you take a sabbatical?
I wanted to take some time out after Naagin wrapped up. It was taxing too as I was playing the role of naagin. I didn't want to jump into another show immediately. So I spent time with my family. I did a few dance performances and a few episodes in serials, so I wasn't really on a complete sabbatical.
Coming to your personal life, when are you planning to get hitched?
Well, my parents are after me to get married since most of my friends are tying the knot this year. For me, though, it's not this year, it will be either the next year or the year after that. I haven't decided about it yet, but yes, I will go in for a love marriage.
So, are you seeing somebody?
Well, yes! I wouldn't like to talk about him though. It's something very personal.
