I hated it the moment i saw the promo 😡. I wanted to kill the CVs for making shyam touch khushi the way he did 😡.
But now i understand. Without the hug, the marriage would not have happened. It was absolutely necessary for arnav to believe khushi is in love with Shyam to make our Arshi wedding happen.
CVs can not make khushi say anything that would create such an impression on arnav. It can not be reverted back. A hug was the perfect option... they can show that it was a forced one later in the show paying the way for ASR redemption. So..
HUG - made arnav believe k loves shyam. MU#1
Khushi's Dialog - Made khushi a threat to his Di's marriage. MU#2
Without the first misunderstanding, the marriage was not an option. He would just sent khushi away from Shyam's reach. that's the perfect solution for MU#2. But with MU#1, he can not sent her away, He thinks her love will make her come back for shyam...
