FATES PLAN
Che l'uomo il suo destin fugge di raro.
For rarely man escapes his destiny.
Ludovico Ariosto, Orlando Furioso (1516), XVIII. 58.
Once upon a time there lived a girl in a tiny town in a big country. So happy she was with her life she she radiated joy they said. Her parents had named her "Khushi", happiness,in hope that she would find happiness. But, the Fates saw it differently. Irony, maybe.
The parents lost she found happiness in her guardians and her cousin sister, she found joy in the smallest of things but the Fates saw differently. Irony, maybe.
She dreamt of a prince charming and a white horse, a house and a family. Nothing much. The Fates planned different. Irony maybe.
She believed and respected all things good and small. She believed and feared the Lord. She sacrificed herself to the fire for her sister, her happiness and her foster family. Preordained maybe.
Entered the beast, so charming, so handsome, so ruthless, the fates gloated on their best creation. A beast not by birth but by Fate.
He was the prince to the large Raizada empire, his kingdom. Under his tyranny every man remained bowed. His eyes reflected the empty expanses of the sea, he was named Arnav Singh Raizada.
He had lost everything like her an his refuge was his sister. However, he sought hatred unlike her. Circumstances maybe.
He never did dream, what ever he said was a mark on stone. Whatever he liked, he conquered. Luck maybe.
He did not believe in love, marriage and his only family was his Di. Prejudiced maybe.
He neither believed or paid homage to any God. He was supreme. A writer of his own destiny. He loved Khushi. He conquered her. Irony maybe.
He avenged what his sister may lose, by making Khushi lose it.
After he was done, she had nothing to lose at all. No family, no guardians, no heart, no happiness. The Fates work was complete. Another name ticked off the sheet. Destiny maybe.
She walked out of her life, her dream. She turned back once, the last time, her house, her family, her home, her love. It hardly came in that order, but it would matter no more. Her six months were up and she would leave, no longer was anything in that mansion hers. She had no claim to anything, human or not, residing in the house he called his, he had said to her six months ago.
She had left a day early but he would not hold it against her would he? Hope maybe.
She walked on, everything abandoned, to a world she knew little off, alone. She could not go back to her guardians, for he had wrenched them out of her shaking hands. Purposefully, let them hate her, abandon her. She had lost her parents all over again. Decreed maybe.
She moved on unnoticed and unheard.
Fates began their hunt for another target.
So many words had been said in the living room of the Raizada Mansion and so many words hovered in the air unsaid. It had been like this from the past six months and today had been the final end.
The beast they had seen, the beast tamed they had witnessed but a monster they had never imagined. His disregard for social customs and beliefs was understood but his actions had ruined his only chance to a happy life.
A life he claimed he never did seek.
A life he had wished for since he was a kid.
A life he foresaw with a girl named Khushi.
A girl who had set out to ruin his sister's life
or so he believed.
He had walked in to find his room the way he liked it. The way it had never been arranged in the past six months. His heart thudded in his chest. A reminder maybe.
The silence he took shelter in, queer. A sign maybe.
He saw the final date on the calendar she had place at the bed side ticked off. Time up maybe.
No hustle bustle in his usually noisy house. Omen maybe.
He never did confess his love to her. Apologize for all the wrong he did and for the hurt he inflicted. Care and protect her the way he always felt. He knew she was gone the moment she had stepped out of his house. Omniscient maybe.
Not all The stories that begin with Once upon a time... have a happily ever after.
But then, was it the end then truly. For there was no closure. Did life want them to move separate ways? Why then did they come together anyways? Fates maybe.
She was a nobody today as she left the house behind. A shadow of her previous self, another shadow on the streets of the mighty city. She was just Khushi, not a Gupta nor a Raizada. Gupta she had lost as she was forcefully married and Raizada she denounced today as the end of her tenure as being wife to the imp.
He had fulfilled his promise, "You will be dead after I am done with you." Truly she was, her happiness was lost and so was the hope. Her heart had been squeezed, trampled, crushed and torn out of her body, her virtue she lost after the infinite accusations hurled by him and the people for whom she had stepped on her dreams. He hadn't laid a hand on her, touched her to only inflict pain and pain had become an indefinite part of her self now.
Happiness he had never asked for after the loss of his mother but all he had asked for was peace. All the happiness he had sacrificed for his sister and still it had not been enough it seems. He had then trampled on the happiest being he had met, stolen her happiness to lay it at his Di's feet but with that he had lost his peace, the quiet. Never did he think that while plundering her life of happiness he had committed his life to a darkness he could never overcome. Today, he stood in his dark room and let himself feel the loss of one of the most precious part of his life, His Khushi.
But, the question hung still...
Was this the end?
Maybe.
But then, it could be an intervention.
Definitely, maybe.
