He walked into his house like any other day. His family was gathered around the living room, laughing away in happiness. The laughing died down as soon as they spotted him. The look of happiness was replaced with that of a pain. He scanned through each face and realised they mirrored each other's expressions. He was about to walk to them when Anjali - his elder sister went away from there with the excuse of remembering some chore in the kitchen. He flinched at her ignorance. Soon the living room turned empty and he found himself standing alone in the middle of the huge hall. He ignored the pain that rose in his heart and made his way to his private cage.
He entered his room and a series of pain awoke in his heart as he passed by each object of the room. Everything held her memory yet he denied it. He threw the jacket on the bed. While burying his head between his rough hands, he sat on the edge of the bed for what felt like eons. It was usual. He reminded himself as his mind went through series of flashback from the past like showing him a movie of his own life. His parents... His childhood... His parents' death... His uncle's betrayal... Khushi's arrival... The first feel of love... The silent confession... Another betrayal... His distrust in Khushi... Dismissing Khushi out of his life... Meeting with the truth... Losing his family despite living with them...The regret and many more regrets...
He could feel the tears threatening to come out but He was ASR. He couldn't cry. Not after all the damage was done. You can't cry over spilt milk. He reminded himself like any other day yet he could no longer control the moist that overwhelmed his dark brown eyes. He sat there still, in the same position for about an hour before he remembered a presentation he needed to prepare for his meeting the next day.
Unwillingly, he forced himself to walk to the bathroom to freshen up before he sat on the bed with a laptop in his lap. He stared at his wallpaper and a smile crept up his lips despite the heavy pain in his heart. He ran his fingers over the picture as if to feel her touch. He lingered his fingers on her eyes for longer than intended. Her eyes were the best part of her gorgeous features. The hazel eyes stared back at him with the ever so heavenly smile that overwhelmed him. He didn't deserve her. He reminded himself yet again. He wanted to be the reason for his smile but end being the owner of her tears.
He wanted to whisper the words of forgiveness but he couldn't. He exceeded the limit where he could seek her forgiveness. He didn't deserve it. He looked up from the bed and stared at the picture that hung on the central wall of the room. The picture mirrored the happiness and the joy of the life that he felt at one point of time in his life. It was their wedding picture. Dressed in golden heavy Lehenga, she made the best bride in the world. He had told her that, though he never meant it that at point of time, he did now. The glow on her face reflected the happiness of her heart as she held his hand in hers. Now when he gazed at the picture; it only gave him more reasons to regret over his life and his distrust in her that did the clever trick of separating him from his ladylove.
"Happy Valentine's Day, love." He whispered, looking at the picture and engrossed himself so much in work that he lost track of the time and found himself in a position that could hardly be termed as sleep. All the while unaware of the reciprocation he received from the heavens above. "Happy Valentine's Day to you too, My Love"...
