"Corporate Titans Create a Colossal Charity", that's the latest buzz from the corporate charity foundation world after Warren Buffet(world's 2nd richest) decides to donate 31 billion(85% his worth) to Gates Foundation(which is already a 30 billion foundation). Buffet said he hoped that other wealthy friends "might pick up on this model" and make dazzling donations. Someone said , '"You have an innovator and a world business leader -- the combination of the two making such a huge personal investment of time and wealth, it does raise the bar and raise the profile of philanthropy."
Philanthropy experts say Gates and his wife have already shaped a new approach of giving by using a relentlessly competitive business model that involves investing in many projects, so that while some fail, others are bound to succeed. Bill Gates said that in two years, he will step down from daily responsibilities at Microsoft Corp., the software company he co-founded in 1975, to work full time on the foundation's many challenges. "Those whom global capitalism has made rich," Gates said, "should help the world's less fortunate. We really owe it to society to give back."
Do you think this will bring revolution in the Philanthropist world? Do you think the world will change it's view towards the needy? Do you think this will motivate not only the rich but also the common people?
I thouht it was a boon to the world. At least something good is happening, which we can look forward to. I was deeply touched and glad to hear this news, I always felt that way. The rich should contribute to the society, not only with money but personal involvement. Even people like us(leading a prosperous and good life) should lend help to the world even in a very tiny-little way.
