There is a very fine line between being simple or naive and being stupid or brainless
Gopi depicts this analogy to perfection.
She is like a horse that likes to get whipped just to prove how loyal and obedient it is.
She does not have a mind of her own, cannot make decisions, has no confidence in herself and is stupid to the point of being classified as mentally deranged.
However much one tries to discount the fact that she was abused as a child and kept uneducated, it is absolutely impossible to believe that anyone can be so so clueless. Just living with Rashi and Urmila should have made her shrewd and calculating.
It is now getting too much, that she is willing to compromise her marriage, her relationship with her in-laws and everything just to stand by her cousin who she knows will stab her in the back the first chance she gets.
To top it all, it now looks like the kalakari's are going to be back.
The serial seems to be full of disfuntionally affected people.
Kokila who is a compulsive controller, currently bordering on mental illness
Hetal - too good for her own good.
Jigar - kind of lost and confused
Ahem - has not yet released the umbical cord.
Kinjal - such an inflated opinion of herself.
Dhawal - Living in his own dream world that Kinjal will accept him
Chiraj - blink and you miss him
Parag - totally oppressed by the mental patient
Rashi - insecure and greedy to the extent of being criminally inclined
Urmila - trashy, crass, cruel, will stoop to any length
Baa - her character is kind of sketchy, sometimes seems smart, when convenient for the storyline is made to look dumb
Meethi - the only one who does what she is supposed to do - open the front door, wipe the table, move dishes around the kitchen (and when will the Modi's each get their own front door key??)
Jeetu bhai - Too henpecked by Urmila - (A very good actor)
