He left Pathankot for Mumbai five years ago to be an actor. His first brush with the small screen was with Kanyadaan on Sony, and then Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Kashmir, Jeet... followed. At present he is the lead on Reth — the popular daily on Zee's afternoon slot. He's also recently entered Yehi To Hai Woh on Star One. We are talking of Ankur Nayyar, the good looking and talented actor who has made a mark in tellytown. Everything seems to be working fine for him. ''It's going fine. Kashmir was a magnum opus with lots of grandeur where I was sharing stage with a few others. Then came Jeet which was also a big show where I played the protagonist. So it was a big responsibility. Even now in Reth and Yeh To Hai Woh, I play very interesting roles,'' says Ankur. Ankur, who is Shekhar in Reth, says his role is very positive and loaded with emotions. ''Shekhar used to be a journalist whose wife gets raped. He has to marry again to save his wife and family. He got divorced from his first wife and doesn't reveal that he is doing all this for his family. So he's taken as the wrong guy. It has a lot of shades, hence a lot of scope to perform,'' says the actor. On the other hand in Yehi To Hai Woh, he plays the role of Pran, an out and out negative character. A multimillionaire, who has a flourishing business and financial institutions. ''He's into shipping, fisheries... you name it. He is a rich dude. He has a class of his own. He is very chilled out and composed. He knows what he wants,'' he adds. This is the first time he is doing a negative role. Otherwise he's been the nice guy on television, though Subroto in Kasauti Zindagi Kay had some negative shades. ''Honestly, it doesn't matter if it's a positive or negative role. It doesn't bother me. At the end of the day I am an actor and I am here to perform. I can't be doing the same thing for a long time. I want to explore and try different things,'' he says. He's also done two films which are complete and ready for release. One is a Smita Thackeray production called Hum Jo Keh Na Paaye and the other one is a children's film by Jolly Mukherjee called Detective Nani. ''I basically want to do good work. My two shows are going good and I am enjoying both the characters. Though while playing a good guy you are restricted, your reigns are pulled, but while doing a negative one you have lot of room and space. You can make your graph. And like I said, I am exploring myself,'' he says. |
