Okay so this episode was branded Kesar in soul all over 😆 Sorry GV lovers, but he's all I saw everywhere in the form of certain missy Gulel 😳
Right from the opening scene, where Gulaal asks why her 'dil' needs to be second to any promises or norms or what not! Why such sacrifice?! This is not the Gulaal we learned to accept and love in post leap. This is the Kesar streak in Gulaal, which always was, and which connected instantly with that brat even when he was but a kid. Or maybe it is the Gulaal streak Kesar had - whatever! I've always said how Kesar was not the sacrificing kind, and the only reason he ever willingly gave up Gulaal - was because he realized there was no other way to 'accomplish' his love. He wasn't exactly sacrificing her, the way Vasant is ready to, here, or the way Gulaal was, in the post leap phase - for family sake, righteousness sake. He was only giving her the liberty to run her own heart and mind. And without knowing, setting her free to find her way back! Gulaal over here is as rebellious, as demanding and compulsive about pyaar ko paana that you can't but be reminded of every time Kesar does the same in the future. Its like karma comes back to hit her in the post leap, where she gets to deal with this stubborn version of herself in Kesar's form, and be compelled to play Vasant's role!
Especially love the final GV scene. I love how this dialogue between the two is such a strong predecessor to the GK dialogue when Gulaal is leaving the haveli first time, after Kesar's brash claims and confessions of love! When she tells Vasant he can choose to be mahaan but what about her, I recall Kesar asking Gulaal, tu to mere bina jee legi, par mera kya! When she tells Vasant that an alien man will own her, even when her eyes have only his image - it's Kesar telling her, how he has become her shadow, and doesn't know how to exist in any other way! And when she tells Vasant, if there is no Vasant, there is no life - it is Kesar telling her main tere bina jee nahin paunga! And both Vasant here, and Gulaal there - feel the pain of the other in their own manner. When Vasant tells her some tears are not shed, some wounds not visible, but it doesn't mean that pain doesn't exist - its exactly what Gulaal had been stepping over that haveli boundary after GK dialogue there - although she was not in love with Kesar then as Vasant is here, she really was giving up the 'soul' of her existence in the name of righteousness, just like Vasant here is! And neither this Gulaal, nor that Kesar can comprehend or accept this form of sacrifice! It is utterly out of character for them! They'd sooner die then live with being deprived hence!
Again, can't close this comment without mentioning the Vasant MB scene. How much in contrast to the Kesar MB scene after Kesar calls off the wedding with Talli. Where MB tells him that he sets off doing things without weighing calculating, sometimes even without knowing the consequences! Here, MB tells Vasant for his love, even a revival of animosity with Rashipur is acceptable. Then again, I remember the final episode MB Gulaal scene, where MB tells her he sets her free. To go and accept and own her love! MB is not really biased pro Vasant and Gulaal as opposed to Kesar, as much as he is giving advice or tips depending on party involved. While with Vasant and that post leap Gulaal - he knows his role is to teach them to not bind themselves with unnecessary shackles because that is what they always end up doing; with Kesar he knows his role is to teach him to possess and exercise some farsightedness. Some sensibility over impulsiveness. While with Vasant and post leap Gulaal, MB feels obliged to safeguard their rights because they wont stand up for themselves while standing up for everyone else; with Kesar, he feels obliged to remind him to look beyond I, me, myself, my love, my need... And dhanya ho Vasant ji, who puts down both Gulaal, and even his father MB, and their respective tempting offers to run away, in the name of righteousness. Just like post leap Gulaal, who puts down Kesar, and even MB's free pass, because she cannot deem it righteous!
I think this will go down as one of my favorite pre leap episodes, for how well linked this is to the post leap segment - how much scope to draw parallels and appreciate the consistency and evolution altogether! Of course, hail a show that can show so much movement in the span of but a 23 minutes episode! 👏
Special shout out to Rahil in this episode - one of his best on the show so far! 👏
