"I was an atheist"

There are times in all our lives, when we desire the need for divine intervention; times, when life refuses to acknowledge the seemingly obvious and decides to take refuge in a world that is far away from ours. A world that gives the body and mind the spiritual healing that it yearns for. We, at Telly Chakkar.com decided to delve deeper into the lives of our favourite stars and know a little about their lives beyond the obvious.

Shubaavi K, the vicious, sinister minded Meera of Kyunki...., on screen, holds monologues with God wherein she demeans him and questions his power. But in real life, she is far from what we know. A devout religious person who has friendly conversations with God is what Sameera Kapoor finds about Shubaavi.

Belief in God?
I do believe in God. For me, speaking to him gives a sense of fulfillment. It pacifies my mind and makes me calm. The conversation, which I have with God, rejuvenates me and fills me with positive energy.

Does God exist?
Well, yes I did go through that phase wherein I felt his existence to be very questionable. For nearly one and half year I was an atheist. Everything then had gone haywire. I lost my dad; broke up with my then boyfriend. It seemed as if misfortune was following me and everything in my life had gone for a toss. I felt that there is no such thing as God. But my belief was reinstated with the entry of a special person whose presence filled the void I had felt then.

"praying is essentially another mode of meditating"

Wish for?
I am very greedy in that sense. I ask for wealth, health and peace, so in a way I make sure I get everything! But otherwise I do not ask anything special. For I believe everything happens for the best. So if I pray for something to be granted and say it is fulfilled, then there are chances that something much better was in store for me and I lost that because I asked for something inferior.

Temple Visit?
The relation that I have with God is unconventional. He is more like a friend to me. Though my mom keeps telling me to follow the traditional practices like praying and visiting a temple, I defer in opinion. One doesn't need to visit any temple exclusively for the fulfillment of wishes. But that doesn't mean that I do not like to go to any temple. I am staunch Shiv worshipper and ardent believer of Goddess Durga. I I yearn to visit any Shiv Mandir and the Novena Church in Mumbai.

Why Shiv?
Shiv mandir is the only place, according to me, were one can pray peacefully. They have a very calm ambience with no noise, neither the bells nor the loud prayers. For me praying is essentially another mode of meditating. It's the best way for one to analyse and assess the issues of life and find best solution for those problems.

Religion or God?
It's the spiritual being which supercedes everything. I try to learn something from every religion. I was born in a Hindu family, attracted to Christianity, studied in a Parsi atmosphere and now at work I meet people from the Muslim community. So I have been in touch with all sects of religion. While religions may differ, but the essential understanding about God remains the same, which is what I follow.

Taboos?
Except for the belief associated with a women's cycle, I do not feel anything else should be considered as a taboo.
