I was just watching the Dec 16 th episode where Siddi goes to her brother and asks for her sister's jewels to mortgage and get cash for Dumbeena's wedding. I do understand that a daughter's wedding is something parents save for from the time the girl is born. And according to the storyline, Dumbeena's dad had some kind of PF set aside just for that- when the days were "good" for him. So, technically there should be sufficient funds in it to even satisfy that father in law of hers.

The way this serial is progressing with constant monetary issues- with everyone earning tens of thousands of Rs it is stating that the middle class is financially dumb. They do not know how to invest their wealth and save and plan for a fiscally sound future.

And that scenario is foolish because the show also illustrates the high levels of education of all the main characters concerned. One of the key features of a decent education is good financial sense. Living within one's means and setting aside funds for assured expenses including marriages, higher education, buying of house, inflation, incidentals such as health, house repairs etc. are part of that planning.

As much as the emotional value of the scene to establish Siddi's "goodness" is concerned, they could have portrayed it in many other ways- not in this dumb demented way.

I agree with you. When I saw that episode I was like not the mortgaging the jewelries to satisfy family needs saga again😡? Have seen it in almost every movie of 60s and 70s, it's really outdated way to show how good of a wife or DIL a girl is. They could have found more creative way to show that Siddhi actually cares for Kunal and his family than this.

Haha! Thanks for responding. Even more of a joke was how little Siddi got for her mother's jewels! Given the current price of gold, that should have fetched her quite a bit. Anyways, we do understand this to be a fictional show but I was sort of disappointed in the way the middle class is being portrayed as these people with big desires and dreams but not having the means to reach them- on the contrary, the way I have understood the middle class they are those who have dreams and the means to achieve them. In case of the poor they have dreams but not means and for the rich, they have means but no dreams as they already are living them!! Jokes and stereotypes apart, I think the CVs need to watch out for goof ups on basic story line and basic characterization of their characters to make the show more "believable". There needs to be continuity.

You are right, what surprises me is that Siddhi is shown to make 75,000 rupees as Anand was making that much and he was junior to Siddhi, so Siddhi had to make at least as much as Anand If not more and Kunal's salary was already shown to be doubled by Batliwala (I wonder where is he these days Anyways) so he at least makes 1.5 lacks and Gaurav was mentioned to make 40,000 rupees and I am sure Raj (the dad) must get some pension amt, let's say 20,000. So in total, their household income is almost 3 lacks per month which should be more than enough for family of 6 with 2 little kids, yet they are always in finacial trouble 😕.

They are not even shown to have extravagant lifestyle so where does all their income get's spend? It beats me😕? May be Ekta can clarify this for us😆😆

😆😆😆 Right! Seema comes from such a rich family and it's very nice of her to do all the housework herself, but a family whose combined household income is 3+ lacks, can definitely afford to hire a bai, can't they?

Hi Blokes. Nice to see you active On this forum. Agree with you totally. Today the middle class has so many opportunities in India, esp the type of family and background the cvs are portraying.

🤗So good to see "old friends" here! Yeah- I think the USP of this show is how in spite of weird situations when 2 totally different people marry- having no trust in each other, over time they come to learn about each other, become friends, learn to respect and honor each other, look out for each other and build a new relationship that is uniquely theirs. That blossoming of that intimacy between the two can also be called "love". It is a great opportunity to show the daily struggle of the middle class- some of them were reflected in some of the scripts of the elder son- complaining about commuting time, inflation etc. No harm in that- on the contrary such inane complaints make the middle class life more interesting when we try to circumvent them in hilarious ways!
