Did you expect your 7 pm show, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, to become number one on the TRP charts? When I signed this show it was supposed to be a prime time show, but then it got a 7 pm slot. It was disappointing when I found out about this and even had second thoughts about doing the show. But my mother convinced me to go ahead and take it up, and I don't regret the decision. We were not sure about how the audience would react to this show, and were expecting to wrap up in six months but the show has done very well and has exceeded everyone's expectations.
Do you think the saas-bahu formula is back? I think people are more open to a variety of concepts. There is room for different kinds of shows and the saas-bahu saga is just one of them.
Did you have to struggle a lot to make it? No, unlike most people I got lucky and within a month of auditioning I was offered shows.
Tell us a bit about yourself I was born and brought up in Punjab, but I have also worked in Delhi and have now shifted base to Mumbai. I got my first break when someone from Ekta Kapoor's production house noticed me at an event.
What's your equation with actor Prachi Desai? There were rumours that you were more than 'good friends' When I joined the industry I was a newcomer while Prachi was already a star. We were even cast opposite each other in a show, which did not materialise and got canned. However, since then we have been very good friends and are still in touch with each other. About the rumours, all I can say is that nowdays even if you step out with your sister, people will turn around and ask you if she is your girlfriend.
And what about actress Abigail, who you were also linked with?' We are very good friends and were seen at a lot of events together, so people assumed we were dating. I am single but since I'm constantly being linked to someone or the other, I think I should start dating now!
