Well, when Rishi came to stay as paying-guest and met neighbouring amma for the first time, she told him that Indira is very nice at heart and not to feel bad about her harsh words. In reply, Rishi said that he knows about her long back. So probably Rishi is Vidhit's friend and with his help Vidhit went to US. So basically he knew the reason of Vidhit going to US. Also Indira says that she has been listening to voicemails of Vidhit for past long time. This means he is not in contact with the family. So basically something has happened that he altered his ways and Rishi is indeed aware of it. So he is here to help Indira move ahead in life.

I love this idea...and if you notice rishi's expression...he was really hurt with the final slap when indira talks about her umeed...maybe he is feeling really sad that she has to handle another man leaving her...though why he feels guilty about this is confusing

If my thoughts are right, then your question is quite valid, why he feels guilty?

Well, possibly when he landed in Sharma Niwas he was not aware of the exact nature of difficulties Indira was facing. Also their first encounter in auto was a mere coincidence. It was only later, when he started to put is immediate solutions to her family problems, he realized that what seems to be a simple solution also has a serious aftermath which causes further troubles for Indira. But in all this process, somewhere he was successful in bringing certain subtle changes in her. She started thinking more sensitively/humanely about her family. It's not that she was not sensitive but she never showed that side of her earlier. Also she started believing positive intentions of her Kirayedaar to help her. It is at this point when she finds that Vidith is not traceable in US. This sudden revelation at a crucial moment was not right as per Rishi and he continued with his disguise. More he continued, more he realized the various new issues in Indira's life and this could be reason for his guilt. Now he has come so far that the revelation will badly hurt her and he does not wants to put her in such situation any more.

I don't know if this is right, but this is what I feel. He has been quite hasty in finding solutions and now he is trapped in his own hasty decision, where neither he can reveal himself nor stop her from making decisions of her life.
