Interview of the week: By A. L. Chougule |
She's very sweet and respectful to Mohini and is also well aware of how to charm men. She plays the damsel in distress when she wants to get her work done, and uses it to her advantage, achieving success each time, even with Prerna's son Prem. "However, there is a twist in her tale that will be revealed later as the story progresses," laughs Sai who is delighted to play a glamorous and sexy girl for the first time on TV. "Debonita knows very well that her weapon is her sex appeal and uses it, not obscenely though, to get her work done. It is a negative role but I am happy to play the character because it's a complete change of image for me," says Sai, who till now had the image of a tough, but plane Jane ever since her debut in Sara Akaash three years ago. "Of course Sara Akaash was a great experience. Since it dealt with the life of young air force cadets there was lot of action and drama besides little romantic tracks. But by and large action overshadowed the personal tracks," says Sai who met her man on the sets of Sara Akash and married him a year later. It was not love at first sight. "Nothing of that sort happened. In fact, Shakti Anand and I were best of friends but we never dated each other or went out together. There was not even a hint of romance in our friendship," she reveals. Shakti surprised Sai when out of the blue he visited her house and proposed to her. "I was taken aback. But since I knew him inside out I said yes and in 15 days we got married," says Sai who, after Sara Akaash, did a couple of episodes of CID and took a long break from work. Daughter of the well-known cinematographer Debu Deodhar and film director Sharabani, Sai was keen on joining FTII for a degree in direction. "I even got through the entrance test and was about to join the course but then Sara Akash, which was launched earlier and shelved later, was revived," she says, adding, "Since I had already shot for it and waited for the show to go on air my father told me to give it a try. Had it not become popular and lasted for two and half years I would have been in FTII now." Married, happy and working, life is going perfectly well for this young actress who wants to take things as they come. "I am keen on learning and want to graduate from one level to another," she says. "Right now I want to concentrate on acting. There is enough time and life ahead for direction." |
