And this depiction of punjabis and gujratis is being watched intently by most south asians inside and outside India! Zee Tv is perhaps the most watched south asian channel in the world!

Personally I think Hetal is pretty...She is not fat or over weight...She is big boned girl but for her height she is fine..
She used to look really nice in salwar kameez and today she looked pretty in the puff sleeve blouse and nicer saree...Why cant Mona wear something nicer than what she wore even to the anniv party?
Sweetie is always dressed up in nice outfits and so is VImmy...I loved Sejal's black salwar kameez today..

i totally agree with you that writers are insulting both punjabis and gujaratis but that is not meher's fault...i mean she is just playing the character she didnt write the script or her dialogues...i am not concerned about hetal at all but Meher...insulting an actor on their physical appearance just because they play a negative character is not fair...but i do understand ur point that cvs have totally crossed the line and not realizing their mistake...

Important Note :-

I'd posted a note on page 4 as well but i think members have ignored it. Therefore, for the last time i'm reposting it.
Members are not allowed to bring religion/cast in between fictious shows. Religion is a very sensitive issue hence, it should not be discussed in topics. You can use surnames instead of using casts like Punjabi's and Gujrati's.
We are NOT supposed to talk about actors physical apperance. This has been said million of times, but members do not listen. It's my last warning to all of you, Refrain from discussing or else WL will be raised henceforth without any notification or pm.

I need to clarify something. I was born into a Sikh household and i've mentioned, i'm not indian. I never heard of Sikhs participating in the Karva Chauth festival since it is a hindu ritual. Is it common for Sikhs in India to partake in Hindu rituals or is this something inaccurate? I was actually quite shocked to have seen this on the show.
I am disturbed by this show primarily cos most of my non-punjabi friends think punjabis are like the bedis or any stereotypical depiction of punjabs in BW, which is far from the truth. Like we are lassi guzzling baboons with no manners whatsoever.

In answer to your questions...yes some Sikh do participate in hindu rituals..all Sikhs have hindu origin and Sikh Gurus have not at any time said anything against Hinduism or against any religion. Sikhs are part and parcel of India and they do celebrate all Indian festivals such as Dewali, Holi, Rakhi etc. Sikhism is very fluid, it is not rigid..I think you are not Indian as you have mentioned in your post and have not lived in India that is the reason you think Sikhs are very different, that is not the case, in punjab hindu and sikh familes are combined. Sikh Guru were married around the fire by hindu tradions, this Sikh marriage tradition is very recent and started in 20th century before that Sikhs were married by a brahmin around a vedi.

I find Bedi's pretty good family, they are open minded, fun loving, reasonably modern, they are not westernized as far as lassi goes, dairy products, lassi, yogurt, butter, milk are very important part of punjabi diet, Punjabi's have been raising dairy animals for at least 4000 years and eating dairy product. North Indians have the enzymes to digest milk and its products unlike many other races, do you know that only Caucasian adults can digest milk products..personally I love lassi, even west is warming up..yoplait, even smoothies are just variation of mango milk shake punjabi's have been enjoying. I don't find Bedi's embarrassing actually I love the way the Sweety dresses up, Vimmi used to dress up well but now her style has gone down the drain.

Your well meaning point is taken..I probably was not thinking but totally understand and agree with you that discussing women body can be very harmful..that was never my intent, thanks for the correction..

I have no interest in abusing and insulting any particular actor or Meher. In order to put things in context, the whole idea of show biz is that people earn their living because of their look or how well they can portray another human being or step into their shoes, in other words they are faking it, and they are always commented on ..that is the nature of the show business, they make money by entertaining people ..people always comment on how an actress or actor looks..if somebody doesn't like this they shouldn't be part of the show biz...it comes with the territory..nobody has forced this on them it is a choice but it is clearly a wrong choice for somebody who sensitive or not very secure.

People who make money by being in the face of people, even Queen's or Princess, do get their looks discussed in Public..they live off people if they don't like this they should stop this kind of work, Queen should stop living off tax payer money and find a profession in which they don't have to play public role and they are not on tv in every bodies living room.

I'm Punjabi and i hate lassi. Who cares about Bedis love for dairy products, not me. And personally, i don't think ur a sikh.
I've got nothing against Hinduism but what u've said...The gurus said nothing against practising Hindu rituals, please read the SGGS. When i asked my mum whether sikhs practise Karva Chauth after watching the episode, she said most probably they are Hindu punjabis, not Sikhs.
Hello, Sikhs do not go around the fire. They go around the SGGS. It's called the anand ka raj. As for Diwali, the significance is different. It's called the Ban Chor Divas, which celebrates the return of one of the Gurus from imprisonment. It's got nothing to do with the Hindu festival. We do not celebrate Holi, nor do we celebrate any other Hindu festival.

I am Sikh, I have no reason for me to fake it. rest assured .no hindu will call themselves a Sikh. I am not Jat Sikh maybe that is why you think I am not a Sikh. I come from an urban professional background

Getting back to your question about dairy product ..Dairy products are part and parcel of staple Punjabi diet. Punjabis have been consuming dairy products since 5000 years...I don't want to discuss your personal likes and dislikes..there are millions of Punjabis who love dairy products..

SGGS is a spiritual book it doesn't tell followers what to eat or or how to live their day to day life..it tells the difference between right and wrong, importance of good values like sharing with unfortunate and community serve.

I can attest to the fact that some urban Sikhs observe Karva Choth..(mind you I didn't say all of them do) my family doesn't but some do. While rural (Jat Sikhs) don't observe Karva choth. Urban Sikhs have mixed families, Hindu and Sikhs. Jat Sikhs (punjabi speaking) are either Sikhs or muslims.

Read some good historical books regarding Sikh history and history of Gurus life their marriages and how they lived their life a very good thesis to read is 'Construction of Religious Boundaries By Dr Oberoi.

.Marriage by Anand Karaj was only introduced a hundred years ago by Tut Khalsa, before this under Sanatam Khalsa all Sikhs were married by Vedi. To prove my point alll Sikh Gurus without exception were married by Vedi. If Anand Karaj is Sikh way then why Sikh Gurus were married by Vedi.

Dewali is an Indian festival, it has been celebrated in India from thousands of years..Sikhism is a very new religion by superimposing something regarding Gurus, you cannot change thousands year old festival and call it a sikh festival. All the Sikhs in Delhi celebrate Dewali and their families have been celebrating it from thousands of years, even before Sikhism or Sikh Gurus came in the picture.

Religion is only one aspect of my life, it is not end in all, Indian traditions and deep roots that connects me to the thousands of years old Indian past is also part and parcel of who I am.. Dewali and other Indian traditions are part of and parcel of all Indians of the subcontinent. Sikhs are Indians.

Yea only Indian Sikhs are Indians. I was born into a Sikh household and we're not Indians. If Diwali is an Indian festival, do Indian muslims or indians who are christians celebrate Diwali? Guru Nanak rejected Hindu rituals. Forget it. I'm not gonna dwell on this point.
Erm, and it's funny how u assumed i'm a jat sikh. Whether i am or not, is not the point. In fact, it's the anti-the point. Jat is a caste and Sikhism is anti-caste.
I don't really care for historical dietary likes or dislikes. I don't believe being part of any community pre-disposes anyone (genetically or otherwise) to liking something. That's bordering erm..nevermind..nevermind.
Carry on. This forum is not a discussion for such stuff. I just wanted to know whether it's wide spread in India, the adoption of Hindu rituals. Thanks for letting me know. :)
