Radio Mirchi's Top 100 year end special reveals interesting music trends for the year gone by

The year 2011 has been great for music and topping the Mirchi Top 100 charts as the song of the year is Chammak Challo from RA.One. The baap of all Bollywood countdowns the Mirchi Top 100, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM India's leading radio network, recently announced the top 100 filmi songs for the year. Having spent 30 weeks on the Mirchi Top 20, Character Dheela from the Salman Khan hit Ready came in second place followed by Char Baj Gaye (Party Abhi Baki Hain). Ainvayi Ainvayi from Band Bajaa Baaraat which was on the Mirchi Top 20 for a whopping 38 weeks occupied the number 4 slot, while the immensely popular among the youthSadda Haq from Rockstar stood at the number 5 spot. The Mirchi Top 100 is the most respected music chart in the country and is seen as the gold standard for the industry.

2011 was clearly the year of good original music albums. For instance, Rockstar, RA One, Delhi Belly and Ready. Albums reigned as against mere songs. It was also the year of upbeat songs. Fast songs became favourites and continued to be relished for a longer time. It was not the year of item numbers and remixes. Hitmaker Pritam says he was sure that Character Dheela would be in the top 5 but number 2 was a lovely New Year gift. The popular Kolaveri Di being from a non-Bollywood album and hence not on the Mirchi Top 100 still found a mention as the most-talked about track of 2011.

As an extension of its dominance in the music space, Radio Mirchi also does the Mirchi Music Awards annually which is the Indian equivalent of the Grammies and is the most coveted Music Awards in India.
