Terence Lewis will have to defeat me: Remo D'Souza
One of B-Town's favourite choreographers, Remo D'Souza is back with his Dance India Dance (DID) gang and co-judges — choreographer Geeta Kapoor, choreographer Terence Lewis and dancing star, actor Mithun Chakraborty for the third season of the dance reality show to go on air on Christmas. In an exclusive chat with DNA, Remo tells us more:
How excited are you about DID in its third season?
DID 3 is all set to prove that it's the baap of all dance reality shows on Indian television. The motto this season is very clear — there is no place for mediocrity, so being the best in just one dance form is not enough. The previous two seasons saw some scintillating performances, but DID 3 will raise the bar with the kind of talented dancers we have unearthed. The passion, the frenzy, the camaraderie, the rehearsals and above all, the spectacular talent — it's all back —with a bang!
What kind of preparation have you taken on to compete with Geeta and Terence?
Preparations are in full swing. I have already won a season, and created a dancing star like Salman Ghouse. So now, I am fully charged up and will try my best to win this time too. I will ensure that I give the other judges an even tougher competition this season, and win many seasons to come.
One hears that Terence has learned new dance forms just for the competition…
Well, he has to because he has to defeat me (laughs). But honestly, it's always good to learn new forms as you can entertain the audience with new styles (smiles).
You have roped in international dancers for this season. Why?
Most of the contestants that we have selected are all very raw and new. So when we begin our gala episodes, there's hardly anytime to teach and train them as the pressure is immense on creativity at that time. The entire focus is on making the choreography come alive and look beautiful on camera. Hence, the best time to train them on different dance forms and the right techniques is in between auditions to the time it goes on air.
Who are the trainers this time?
A participant selected by the masters will be put through rigorous training by experts from around the world. Stalwarts of the stature of Alex Magno, a renowned creative director and choreographer who's known for his work with celebrities like Madonna, The Pussy Cat Dolls and Britney Spears. Besides Magno, there's Lourdes Vijay, who specialises in Latin and ballroom style and Haridas Ethafu, a strength and flexibility trainer, will conduct intensive workshops with the dancers.
The biggest learning for me in the first season was that I had stopped pushing the limits of my creativity. I always felt I have done my best with a song, but on DID when I thought I have delivered the best through my contestant, a contestant from the rival camp would shake me up with his performance. I realised that I've to keep improving my choreography all the time.
