Range of the singer, perfection, variety of genres in which he/ she excels etc. can be taken as the criteria for choosing the finest.

And yes National awards can be taken as a criterion, as it is the highest form of accolade in the country, given to the finest singer year after year. It is transparent, reliable and genuine as every year the award jury constitutes the greatest musicians of the country. To earn the National Award is not easy like earning some glitzy award like the filmfare or the stardust award.

Why Himmesh is not in the list? He has better range than Yesudas. BTW who r these mohan and chandran guy?

Well Himmy Bhai is a class above as he is a composer and an actor too.
When Bollywood is shrunk into one person we get Himmy Bhai.
