Dadi: "The next day, Rano got ready for the operation and I had gone with her. The operation took around an hour and it was tensely. But after it was over, doctor told me it was successful and in few hours, she'll be fine. She was under medication and thus was unconscious. I sat next to her the whole time till she gained consciousness. We had a healthy conversation and I assured her everything was fine."

"She felt sleepy as the medicines were given as she woke up. Even I went home to get lunch for her and when I got back, everyone was rushing here and there in the room. The nurse told me that by mistake, some wrong medication dose was given and she reacted to it. The situation should have been in control but when it was still out of control for a few minutes, I directly went to the doctor."

FLASH-BACK

From Dadi's POV

Doctor: "I think it's time to tell her husband." I broke down crying. After a second of thought, I wiped my tears. I knew I had to do it. If I couldn't help her before, then I knew this time I had to. I decided I will do what she had asked me to do if something wrong were to happen. I called Karan and called him to my house.

He came in a matter of minutes and I gave him the letter Rano had given to me. Karan broke down reading it and wasn't ready to accept Rano would do it. He kept on refusing but when he couldn't find Rano anywhere, he slowly accepted it. He left with a heavy heart.

PRESENT

Geet: "But what was in the letter?" Dadi showed her index finger as she reached for her purse. From inside, she removed a piece of old paper. She handed it to Geet and said, "How about you read it for yourself?"

Geet hesitated for a second. She was about to read the letter her mother had written. She read out loud, "Karan, what I am about to tell you is the truth. It's true that I really do love you and Geet. There is no doubt on that. But I am leaving'leaving both of you. When we got married, I was not actually happy. After all, it was an arranged marriage. I thought over time, things would be better. I started to think it was. But then you were always busy with office and work that you had no time for me. I'I met my old friend and just like that over time, I fell in love with him. Trust me, I didn't mean for it to happen. But it has happened and nothing can be done now. I'm leaving and both of us are starting a new life. It'll be best if you forget me. Take care of Geet. Give her everything she wants. Bye'"

Geet asked, "This is what I've been told to. I know that Mumma ran away with someone. But that's not the truth. Why did she lie? Why??"

Dadi: "Geet'Geet listen to me. She thought that it's better for him to forget her rather than live by himself the whole life. She didn't want you to be a child without a mother. She thought that if she made him hate her then he would move on, re-marry. You would have a mother."

Geet said sarcastically, "Yea sure I have a mother!" she closed her eyes and then asked, "Why? Why did she humiliate herself? If she were alive now, she could have seen how wrong she was. There was no need to make herself look bad. Dad doesn't deserve that. He deserves worse."

Dadi: "Geet! He's your father! How can you talk about him like that?"

Geet: "Father?! My father? What was the last thing he did that any father would do for his child? He's just a father for name's sake."

Dadi held her hand, "Geet, I agree he hasn't been the best of the father. But he is your father."

Geet: "Why are we talking about him again? You'you tell me what happened after."

Dadi: "Karan was sad. He couldn't bear it. He did love your mother apart from the person he is now. Slowly, over days, he accepted it and started to care for you. But then he started blaming you for Rano's run away. On his mother's constant insistence, he agreed to re marry. After that, I never once talked to him. But before the marriage, I had warned him about Priya. He didn't listen."

Geet: "And look at where he is now. He's paying for his mistake alright."

Dadi: "Daughter, I can't make you like your father if you don't want to. I just came to meet you to fulfill my last promise to Rano."

Geet: "Why did she make you promise to tell this to me now? Why not before?"

Dadi: "She wanted to wait till you were 21. Now that your birthday is next week, I thought it would be better if you knew now."

Both were silent for few minutes. Geet then asked, "What'what happened to mom after that?"

Dadi: "She'she passed the operation. She's still alive." Geet was shocked. Her eyes widened and looked at dadi to confirm she wasn't just hearing things. Dadi nodded. Tears started falling out of Geet's eyes and it made dadi emotional as well.

Geet: "Mom'mom's alive? I don't believe it."

Dadi: "She is. I wouldn't lie."

Geet wiped her tears and said, "Where is she? Where? I'I want to meet her. How is she?"

Dadi made Geet sit. "Geet'listen to me. She's here. She came with me. But this isn't the right time to meet her. She's fine but'"

Geet: "But what? And if she's alive, then why didn't she come back?"

Dadi: "How could she? I had made a mistake by giving Karan the letter. It was too late for her to come back. And by the time she had fully recovered, Karan had decided to re marry. Then even she had decided that she will go far away from both of you. I supported that because as I said, Karan wasn't ready to listen to anyone. Priya had made such a fake impression on him."

Geet: "She could have at least called me. But never mind that, why won't she meet me now?"

Dadi: "She says she'll meet you only after you're 21."

Geet scoffed and gave a look that said she-has-got-to-be-kidding-me. Dadi shook her heard in answer to that look. Geet burst out, "What! She's serious. Come on!! You don't expect me to wait one more week do you?"

Dadi: "You have to. She's in hiding and you're just as stubborn as her. So she is going to throw a few tantrums no."

Geet slugged her shoulders. Dadi chuckled. "Oh come on Geet. It's just a week. That'll pass away in a blink of an eye."

Geet wasn't ready to listen to her. After what she had just found out, how can she not meet her? After all, she's learnt the biggest truth about her mother. She couldn't stay away from her now. Dadi tried one last time, "Ok, how about i let you chat with her? Would that be enough to last you through the week?"

Geet's eyes brightened up. "Is that possible?"

Dadi nodded and on the note pad, she wrote down the mail id. "Be sure to be online tomorrow night. I'll make sure she comes online too."

Geet was excited and hugged dadi tight. "Oh thank you dadi. You're the best!"

Dadi: "First listen to me fully."

Geet sat down: "Oh! Ya ok tell."

Dadi: "I'll give you to id if you promise me something. Actually take it as a condition from my side."

Geet said teasing, "Haw! Since when do you act like this huh?"

Dadi said in the same teasing mood, "Ok. Then I'll just throw this away."

Geet had a mini heart attack. "No no no. Aap bhi na. You shouldn't take a joke seriously. Tell, I'm ready to listen."
