Gutted.
I wanted to be able to update this more regularly in the holidays but I have a huge essay to be done & way too much revision for January exams 😔
Just a heads up - I won't be updating this in January because of exams, so I'll be on a month's hiatus.
I'll post chapter 17 next week & that will be the last one until my exams are over at the end of January.

Chapter 16 - Burning

Chapter 16 - Burning
"Geet."
His voice was like a lullaby to her, making her name become a clandestine treasure. She squeezed her eyes shut even tighter, hoping the loud thumping of her heart in her chest would decrease.
She felt his hand move down her left arm, to link her hand into his. His rough yet still soothing touch only caused her heart to go into another frenzy.
He watched as her beautiful brown eyes were shut tight, the eyes which were the windows to her soul. Yet he could almost hear her heart beating, and her fingers tightening around his as he held them in his grip proved what he had known all along.
"Open your eyes," he whispered.
"You need to go," she said softly, remembering the love & desire she had seen in his eyes before she closed them again.
"I don't want to. You always tell me to leave, I always agree. But not anymore, Geet. I don't want to stay away from you. I can't."
His hands trailed up her arm again. Her skin felt so soft, feather like. Geet opened her eyes & tried to get up off the bed but Maan's hands went around her waist, locking her in his embrace.
His fingers moved up to her shoulder, then across, caressing her collarbone gently. Geet couldn't deny the comfort, the warmth, the love that emanated from his touch any longer.
If she could, she would happily stay in his embrace forever, but life had never been kind to her. Happiness never remained with Geet for long.
So she lay there in his arms, inhaling his familiar musky scent & memorising everything about him, entrapping it in her mind & heart forever.
"I can't breathe if you're not around," he said, locking his other hand with Geet's as he traced the hollow of her neck. "My day is incomplete without seeing you, my nights are lonely with our distance & my life is nothing if you're not part of it."
Thick tears welled up in her eyes as his words touched her very soul. For the first time in her life, she felt truly loved.
Geet gulped as she released her hand from Maan's, raising it to touch his cheek. She was afraid, afraid he was a figment of her imagination, afraid he would disappear.
But when her hands collided with his skin, & she watched as he closed his eyes in bliss, a small smile crept upon her lips.
He opened his eyes to see Geet, his Geet, smiling up at him so blissfully that his heart picked up at how glorious she looked.
"I want you to smile at me like that forever."
Forever.
Her forever was not destined with Maan. He belonged to someone else.
Geet dropped her hand from Maan's cheek as the tears fell down her face.
"Geet?" Maan reached out to wipe her tears away but Geet grabbed his hand & stopped him. She looked down at their hands, unable to meet his eyes.
"My forever doesn't belong with you," she whispered softly, her lips trembling as her heart ached. "You're engaged. You're about to get married. You shouldn't even be here, certainly not with me-"
"Geet, I love you."
Her eyes shot up, as Maan looked at her with such intensity, she felt like she was burning.
"I love you, and I will only love you for as long as I exist. No one else matters. I will forever be with you & by your side."
Geet opened her mouth to protest, and Maan knew very well what she was about to counter argue. He laced his fingers with hers and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand, formulating the words that he had been considering for so long, wanting to be careful with them so that he didn't drive her away, but rather pulled her closer to him.
"Geet. Run away with me."
