Part Eleven
"Now that curtain doesn't look right,"Manyata said.
Unnati looked up at the window pane an noticed the metal bar holding the base of the curtain was popping outwards.
" We can one of the handymen to fix it. Why don't we sit and talk?," Unnati suggested.
"Goodness forgive me. I should have at least offered you tea. We haven't taken a break in quite some time,"Manyata stated.
Unnati smiled. Manyata was gradually but surely learning the way of the royals. They started to talk about her lessons and soon the topic turned to shopping for the engagement and when Dadisa would arrange the date.
" Kya tum Dada ke saath adjust kar pao gi? You have just gotten accustomed to the royal ways. If you think anything is being rushed you can tell me I can try to speak to Dadisa,"Unnati stated.
Manyata shook her head.
" I am at a loss. I don't know if anything is going right or wrong," she muttered.
She trusted Unnati and didn't want to hurt her. She knew Udayveer one way and his sister knew him a different way.
Unnati placed hand on Manyata's shoulder.
"Dada I think is falling for you. I can sense a change in him," she said assurlingly.
Manyata turned flustered. Udayveer softening due to her would be hard to believe. She decided on a whim to climb up and fix the curtain herself. She looked for something to stand on. She grabbed and pushed the heavy chair towards the window.
A servant came in and brought tea.
"Rajkumari Manyata should I get someone to help you? You shouldn't climb up there, you may get hurt," the woman said with concern and fear.
Unnati got up and tried to convince Manyata to get off the chair.
"Nahin koi baat nahin hai. I am used to doing my own work," she replied as she continued to stand on the chair and reach upwards.
Unnati turned to the servant and told her to get help. Manyata was not going to be convinced easily.
"Manyata yeh kya pagal pan hai? Please get down," Unnati pleaded with her.
"Just a second Unnati. I know what I am doing," the other girl assured her.
Unnati was very concerned as Manyata's foot almost slipped a few times from the arm rest of the chair.
"Dekho I believe you but the chair isn't going to support your weight from this angle," she stammered.
Dadisa, some security guards and Udayveer rushed into the room.
Manyata's feet were now off the chair and she was dangling off the barely standing f curtain frame.
"Manyata yeh tum kya kari ho? You should have asked someone to help you. Uday beta inko neeche utaro," Dadisa said firmly but with some concern.
"Jee Dadisa," Udayveer said.
He told the guards to arrange the extra pillows on the floor around Manyata.
"Manyata now we are ready. Just let go," he said.
"Nahin main kaise?," she said.
"Hum hain na, fikar mat karo. Just let go Manyata," he said assurlingly.
She took a deep breath and let go Udayveer helped ease down her fall. She thought she would fall backwards and hit her head, but he was able to keep her from falling head first.
Unnati sighed with relief.
"Dada you saved her. She had me so scared," his sister exclaimed.
He let her stand up straight.
Dadisa took her aside.
"Tum kyun aise humhe darti ho? We love you so much beta," Dadisa said.
" I am sorry Dadisa. Dobarra nahin hoga,"Manyata said as she was able to speak after catching her breath.
Meanwhile Unnati and Udayveer talked for a bit.
" I told you she can be a jungle billi at times. I am glad you didn't go up there with her," Udayveer said.
Unnati smiled.
" Dada I know you were really concerned about her. Lekin mujhe pata hai ki aap use jungle billi se kitna pyaar karte ho," she teased her brother.
He shook his head.
" If anything happens to her then all the power and wealth dies when Dadisa breaths her last. For now Dadisa's life is Manyata. I have to help keep both families from losing everything," he declared.
Unnati smiled knowlingly.
"Maybe it's too early for you to feel that way Dada. However I know you both will make a great pair. I just hope Dadisa picks an engagement date soon. I can't wait to see my Dada getting married," she declared.
Udayveer smiled.
" Don't worry chutki. Woh din dor nahin hai," he assured his sister.
Manyata suddenly winced with pain. Dadisa gasped noticing a bad cut on her hand.
"Manyata you sit down here I will send for the first aid kit," she assured her.
Udayveer noticed Manyata sitting on the window seat in the parlor some time later. She was gazing out towards the garden and lingering sunglight as the day would come to a close within the next hour or so.
He noticed the bandage on her hand. He gently took her hand. She turned to look at him.
" Tumhe humhe thanks bolne ki zaroot nahin hai," he said with a slight smile.
She looked at him curiously
"Do you have any other work besides making yourself look good in front of my family and following me around?," she inquired.
He laughed.
She grew angry but winced from the pain coming from her hand.
He turned solemn seeing her expression.
"Manyata you really need to be more careful," he said.
"Haha so you can marry me and have two empires under your thumb? I have no interest in this money and power. I'll get educated and get a job and a place of my own someplace. I'll leave everything to you if you rather not marry me," she stated.
Udayveer looked at her carefully. He got lost in thought for a moment. The truth is he wanted her where he could see her. He liked fighting with her and just being around her. He would not let her get away again. He had waited sixteen years for her. Even if it took more time he was ready to wait it out. Now more than ever he wanted Manyata to be his maharani. There could be no one else like her.
