Hello friends, I am Emman. This is my first ever FF. I've started writing because I want to keep our Maaneet alive like many other authors here are doing. It might not be as good a peice of writing as there are available on this forums. I hope you like it, be it a little bit of it only. 😊

Worthless Love?

Is love not enough for life??... can't it complete your life fulfilling all desires??

Or is it just to easy to let go of for other substitues??

It might hurt you, but it is the only thing that can provide cure!!

GEET HANDA

A 20 years old girl. She is kind, humble and caring. She belongs to one of the richest families of India.

MAAN SINGH KHURANA

He is 21 years old. He is a reserved and egoistic person by nature. He does not get dragged away by emotions easily but whenever he does, he is very intensly involved.

PARI

She is Geet's friend in her hostel. She is sincere, friendly and jolly by nature.

SAVITRI DEVI

Maan's Dadima, one elegant caring and loving lady. She is always worried for her grandson and wants him to live his life happily. She holds a place like a mother in all her grandchildren's life.

ANVESHA KHURANA

She is Maan's youngest sibling. She is very dear to him and close to his heart.

Part 1

"Is this all your love was capable of??", He asked with immense pain and disapppointment in his eyes.

I never said that I loved you!! How can you even think like that?? there is a difference as large as seas between our standards... I can't live my whole life merely relying on love. I need many other luxuries which I have been getting from my parents which you are no capable of providing me with. How can think that I would leave this comfortable life even if I loved you??" She said while arranging her books which were spread all over her writing table, as if she didn't even care to talk to her face to face and wanted him to leave as soon as possible.

"I have always thought of you as a mere friend, just as many others that I have. What made you think that I would choose you over all rich and sophisticated friend of mine as my life partner."

"I know you very well, you are not a materialistic person at all."

He replied with hope in his eyes.

"No, you don't know even 1% of me. I am very much a realistic person, and I know that besides love there are many other things of equal importance!!."

She said shattering the last pinch of hope in him.

"Now if you are done with your dramatic dialogues, I've to study for my exams and I don't want to be disturbed."

She said without even bothering to see how much pain she has induced on him.

He left her room not being able to contrl his pain caused by her reply that peirced his heart and soul.

He was poor but an egoistic person, he could not bear his self-respect being shattered by the person who he loved the most. And that too, why??? Because his was not as rich as her parents were?? Because I was not as mush wealthy as her friends were??? He never knew that these things mattered to her so much that she would reject him with all this humiliation.

He still couldn't believe that she has said all that to him. She was no such a person... so humiliating, so harsh...and...this materialistic. He had known very humble, very kind and helping Geet... who was close to his heart!!!

Several hours after he had left her house, she came downstairs to have dinner with her family. Other members of family were not yet present there except her father Guljeet Handa!!

She sat on one of the chairsnear that of her father's.

He observed her state for a few moments and then came out, " I knew that you would make a wise decision, I had complete faith in you that you would let the honour of your family suffer".

She just noded in reponse to his appreciation and started pouring some water into glass while her mother Rano Handa, her sister Priya, and her stern brother Brij also entered the dinning room to have dinner.

She could only take a few bites and asked everyone to excuse her, " I am done with my dinner, I'm going to my room since I have to sudy a lot for the exam tomorrow"

Guljeet Handa looked at her apprehensively when she smiled and assured him that she was okay.

Other people knew that how tensed she gets for exams... she has always been a bright student and when it comes to exams she would just leave everthing alse and drown in her books, therefore no one asked her anything and let her go.

She was sitting on her bed with her books spread around, but she could not concentrate on her studies. His words drenched in pain, his eyes full of questions were coming in her mind again and again. She knew that she had to get rid of all his memories, but she was not able to do so.

She had to be strong... but it was just too difficult. And just when a drop of tear was about to escape her eyes, she took a deep breath and jerked all those thought off her mind.

Part 2

He was not kind of a person who would beg for other's mercy... He never liked to share his feelings, his pain with others. This is how he was!!

His self-respect, his pride, his arrogance, his ego were most important to him. He had never expected these to be smitten by someone who herself was his pride, close to his heart.

He was not a person who would let the world know about his weaknesses... He hated to be weak..

"I wouldn't become weak, I don't want to be weak... because when you are weak you get nothing but mercy and sympathey... and I don't want any of these."

And just when a drop of tear was about to escape from the corner of his eye, he decided that he would never be vulnerable, that he would always stay strong, as a strong as a concrete wall!!! ... the drop of tear dried even before escaping his eye.

Geet had used all her determination to make sure that she does not think of anything that distracts her... that she wouldn't think of him!

She was a down to earth person. In all her life, she had never humiliated someone... she didn't know how to break someone's heart... she didn't know how to let others down.

She had always been ready to sacrifice!!!... to sacrifice for her family, to sacrifice for her friends, to sacrifice her happiness to make others happy.

Time flies!!!

It was two years ago... but it seemed like it was yesterday.

Geet graduated with flying colors ... her family was proud of their architect daughter. Her father was proud that she has elated the name of their family.

Her mother was proud that she never voilated family values.

Her sister was proud that she was such a bright person, her aspiration.

Her brother was proud that she took care of the family's honour.

This was what she would have desired for, this was all she wanted, this was what had always made her happy.

"But then why ain't I happy??", her mind was asking her heart.

"Because there is another person who should be happy", her heart replied.

And all of sudden, she sighed painfully. As if nothing mattered to her, as if there was something wrong.

"He never came to me again. He must have forgotten me, he must have moved on. May be he is happy in his own world", her mind told her heart in an attempt to shove away her worries.

"May be...!!", the meak voice of her heart came from somewhere deep and she came back to her present where her family was very happy with her.

He never was an incompetent person, but competency didn't mean accumulating money before. Now, he was a successful businessman, with all the qualities that one could desire for. All the big businesses in India and abroad wanted to work with him because of his professionalism and proficiency, and because he was a perfectionist.

"Everything has changed in these two years. Today, everything is within my reach because I have money!!", he chuckled a little thinking of the irony.

Yesterday, where there was love - immense love , that place was now occupied by money - inestimable money.

"But why ain't I happy then??", His mind questioned his heart.

"Because this isn't what I had desired for, this was never the criteria of happiness for me!!", His mind replied.

"The person whose hapiness you desired for, must he happy in her own world. She does not resort on you for her happiness, she has everything that could make her happy. There is no reason for you to think of her, because she is very happy without you!", came the reply of his heart silencing the voice of his heart like always. On the very few times he let his heart speak, his mind would always supersede his heart and make it quiet. Because his heart had caused him humiliation and it was his mind which helped him build his pride.

"Yes I am happy because my self-respect and my pride is not hurt, because my family- my Dadima, my younger sister and my younger brother- is happy and comfortable", his mind reasoned in an attempt to satisfy him.

She talked to her father about persuing her career in architecture. She wanted to work, and she had come to take his permission for job.

Her father was a little reluctant in letting her do a job, rather just too reluctant. It wasn't their family's custom to let girls go out and work.

" We'll see Geet, just wait for some time.", her father told her not denying expilicitly but he knew that he would never want her to do a job.

She was disappointed by his reply and her disappointment didn't go unnoticed by him, therefore he tried to satisfy her,"Geet beta, I want you to be happy because I am your father and I would never do something against your own will, trust me beta!", saying this he left the place for he had to go out for some important work.

She sat there wondering if it was the same person. How can one person be so mild sometimes and then too harsh on other times. "Does he really care for my happiness??", She wondered as if she didn't believe in his words.

"Yes he does, and wouldn't decide something for me against my will, he is my father after all.", she tried to shove away all the negative thoughts.

"But it was also my father then!", the fight between her heart and her mind could not still be ceased.

She was confused apprehensive about what was going to happen in her life and as it had been the case for the last two years, she didn't have anyone to console her, to remove her worries, to suggest her, to pacify her. She felt all alone!

But didn't have someone who he could share his feelings, his thoughts, his turmoil with. He didn't have a habit of opening himself in front of others, be it his close family!!

He was all alone since... "since when??", a question arose deep within him.

"Yes, for last two years!", as realisation struck, he sighed and continued his work.

PART 4

The news was like a bomb on her nerves. She went all numb when her mother told her that she is to be married to his father's best friends son.

She could not concentrate on what her mother told her further. She had never thought that this could also be done to her. She just couldn't respond and left for her room.

Abhishek was not someone she would want to live her life with. She knew that she would never be happy with. He was just not her type of a person. He was too materialistic, too pragmatic to understand her. Everyone knew what a harsh and unconsiderate person he was towards women.

She still remembered how once he compensated for not coming to her graduation party by sending her an extremely expensive jewellary peice. She remembered the note on the card which said she should be happy that he hadn't come otherwise he wouldn't have sent this exclusive gift as a compensation.

Now she realised why her parent were so adamant about her giving him a special invitation for the party. She had assumed that it was because he was her father's closest friend and a business partner. Little did she know that they had other plans. She was shocked on Abhishek's gestures but she never paid any heed to it since she knew that this is perhaps one of the very few times she would have to interact with him.

He thought of women as chocolates or candies who are there just to please men. He was just too different from someone she had long known.

"Yes, Abhishek and Maan are two poles apart!", she was astonished how she was subconsciously comparing them both. "Why am I thinking of someone who I had once asked to get out of my life?? Why ??", she was now irritated with all what was going on in her life.

But one thing she was sure about was that she would never marry Abhishek. It was just not in her hand. It was one thing to let HIM go out of her life, but it was a completely different thing to give HIS place to someone else. And she could never do that, it was just impossible for her to do.

She decided that she would clearly refuse the proposal. She would tell her parents that she didn't want to marry Abhishek, that she was not compatible with Abhishek. She remembered her father assuring her that no decision will be taken against her will.

"Hmm... I should talk to him, he would consider my concern. He told me that he won't take any decision against my will.", she thought metally cursing herself for her stupidity, "I am so stupid to make an issue out of it, mummy was just asking me about it. It's not like they are going to marry me with Abhishek against my will.", she said to herself and smiled slightly in relief

"Dadima, how many times I have told you that I don't want to marry now. Please now stop forcing me into it, your tantrums are not going to work. You know that I don't go back on my decisions!", he spatted showing how unhappy he was about discussing this matter again, he knew that she will keep on persuading him therefore he immidiately left for office, "Dadima I have to leave for office, bye!".

His dadi, Savitri Devi, sat there on the dinning table dumbfounded. She knew that he hated to discuss this topic, but she just couldn't see his plight, she couldn't see him away from all the warmth and happiness of life. He cold behavior was much an evidance of his inner tribulation.

It wasn't as if he had become too old in age that she wanted him to marry. It was rather his condition, his behavior towards life which worried her always. She wanted someone to be close to him to share his pain, to bring colors back in his life. She wanted him to live his life!!

Little did she know that this topic only reminded him of his humiliation, of him being rejected because he didn't have money.
