RIIINNNGGG!!!!!!!!!!!! RIIINNNGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sharon gave an irritated glance to her cell lying on her bed before turning back to the mirror. She was already running behind schedule and it seemed to her as if the entire world had decided to settle scores with her today itself. Today, and not any other day.
It was all Simi's fault. How could she bring a subtle lavender coloured Gucci gown for her when she had clearly instructed her that she needed white. It was his favourite colour!
No, it was Rini's fault. Had she not been out of town, Sharon wouldn't be so behind schedule today.
Or perhaps it was Rey's fault! Yes! But how could you expect a guy hopelessly in love to be of any help whatsoever. Some best friend he was proving to be... hmph!
Vicky was out of question. Not that if he weren't going gaga over his deewani that he'd be useful.
And it all came down to Nilesh and Simi. But where were they!
Things were just not happening the 'Sharon way'.
She let out a loud groan. She gave one final look at her image in the mirror and smiled. (And the mirror got lucky!)
She was wearing the soft pink gown her secret admirer had gifted her and dotingly picked up the watch with the emerald embellishments and wore it.
She stroked the dial with her finger absent-mindedly as the memories of the times she had been with Swayum floated in front of her eyes. The almost kiss at the party that night, the first dance, the boat-ride and his love confession.
Her eyes pricked and she was on the verge of crying when Simi dashed in her room.
"SHARON! YOU HAVEN'T BEEN ANSWERING THE PHO..."
Sharon cut-her immediately. "And now are you going to tell me whether I should take my calls or not? I am running late, remember? I wouldn't even answer my death call today! I have to make up to him..."
Simi tried to speak, "You need to know what I am trying to te..."
Sharon turned around in a soft circle, smiling widely. "How do I look? " She gave a soft sigh, trying to keep her nerves in control.
Simi: Sharon...
Sharon: *finally looking at her* Why do you all so keen of ruining the happiest day of my life? What is it? I mean...
Simi: (interrupting) Swayu...
Sharon: Seriously! (snapped) You need to learn how to... waitaminnit! What did you just say? *grins sheepishly* Swayu..
Simi: Swayum's met with an accident!
************************************************
Simi was sitting besides Sharon in the car and they were rushing to the hospital.
She was clueless how to react. She was definitely concerned about Swayum but Sharon's reaction was shocking.
A few minutes ago she'd seen Sharon's weakest side. The bottle of cologne the Swayum had gifted her had slipped from her hands as she herself fell to the floor, motionless!
She did not give a single indication of being alive, she did not breathe. Simi could make out tears building up in her eyes but she did not blink.
A tear drop fell in her lap and she shuddered, slightly.
The phone rang again and she sprang up to her feet.
It was Rey! And she knew, it was nothing not to be worried about.
And the next moment Simi remembered was now, in Sharon's car.
Sharon was not cursing the driver, the traffic, the stray dogs, the newspaper vendor, the red light... as she'd have done usually if she needed to reach somewhere urgently.
She was, on the contrary, blue. Tears rolling down her cheeks constantly. And yet, she gave no sign that she had heard Simi telling they'd reached the hospital till she finally poked her.

Sharon had been running for her life, or so it seemed. There was an instant urge to see Swayum and she kept running till they reached the end of the corridor. She halted seeing Kriya and Neha in tears and Vishakha patting them gently, perhaps consoling them.
What was there to console? Why were they crying as if... NO! Nothing can happen to Swayum. Not today, not ever.
Rey and Vicky approached her. Rey placed his arm around her and soflty whispered, "He was on foot and... a bike... r.. ran into him... and ... no... it... just... he... he... he hit his head on a nearby road partition and... ". Rey stopped his muttering as he felt Sharon stiffening suddenly.
Vicky spoke, "Doctors are sure that he'll be... umm... ok! Just need to observe his response and recovery rate for a couple of hours before they tell..."
Sharon was already moving towards the ICU and peeped through the window.
There laid her dreams undermined, sodden in blood.
It was all her fault. It was too late.
************************************************
The doctors had allowed one person to stay in the observation room and no one dared to offer Sharon help. They knew she what she'd want.
They mutually decided to stay back in the corridor for the rest of the night. Tonight, it was going to be a crucial night.
************************************************
She stepped in where he lay without a sound. It was almost midnight. There was an eerie silence in the room. She saw him covered in bandages and with the oxygen mask . Her throat hurt, like someone had cast hot iron down her throat. Her eyes hurt too. And her head spun. She couldn't think and moved closer to where he lay.
Careful not to stir him, she sat next to him eyeing him intently.
She rapidly blinked her lashes to clear her vision, fogged by the tears that continued to flow of their own accord.
There could have been a different ending to the night, she wanted it her way.
She had decided to go on her knees to win the love of her life back. She was all set to do away with her beliefs, attitude, likes and dislikes, ego, issues and everything... for this one man who came in her life one fine day, and was now her life.
Her heart was filled with remorse for all that she'd done to him. She'd never reciprocated his love and emotions because she herself had no idea that she felt the same for him before he had changed her for the better. He was the man who had broken all the barriers, removed all the covers that and uncovered the true, lovable Sharon.
He was the man who had not pampered her like a princess as she was used too but loved her like his own being, beyond doubt.
He was the man who made her realize that she was actually loved and wanted in someone's life and was more important to him than anything.
She delicately held his hand in hers and caressed it.
Her mind had flashbacks of how she'd constantly hurt his pride and emotions.
She missed his gaze, the look that made her feel so conscious and shy. The one look that was filled with pure love, pure like virgin snow, unconditional-nothing less and definitely, nothing more.
She missed those eyes.
She would never be alive ever if she did not have him back.
She let out a low sob and kissed the tip of his fingers and engulfed his hand tighter near her bosom as if she was holding him to herself.
He moved vaguely in his sleep and let out an indistinct whine. He was in pain and it hurt her.
She ran outside for she could no longer contain herself and broke down. She cried, cried hard, as if trying to wash away the guilty images from her past. Rey knelt by her side and hugged her. She needed him, she needed to hide somewhere, she felt as if she'd never be able to see him.
************************************************
The night passed slowly. Ever since Sharon's breakdown everyone had become much tenser and Simi tried to lull Sharon to sleep, in vain.
She went back to the room where he lay and sat by his side silently, praying. He had never wanted something so hard in her life. She had always got everything from life, effortlessly, without asking. And for the first time, there was something, someone, she couldn't afford to lose. She did not even know how to pray. She went on her knees; her hands folded and bit her lip hard. She begged... she could lose everything, not him.
She tried to contain herself and got up, moved her face closer to his ear and whispered... "I love you!"
************************************************
Her eyes opened next morning when she heard Bharat talking to the doctor and Vicky hugging Nilesh, shouting. It took her a moment to gain back her senses. She gained her composure and before she could ask Vicky hugged her too saying, "I told you right... he was going to be ok."
Swayum had gained consciousness a while ago and then quickly went back to sleep. The doctors were happy and told that it wouldn't be long before the affect of anaesthesia would wear off.
Sharon waited with baited breath by his side.
She did not realize if it was a while or perhaps ages before she heard him coughing.
Swayum opened his eyes and saw everyone around his bed. And she couldn't waste another moment.
Suddenly, Sharon confessed, "I love you Swayum". Tears swelled up her eyes again.
Swayum drew her closer with to him and kissed her soflty, pulled apart and said, "I love you too Sharon, always will!"
They stayed together, foreheads touching each others' while everyone hooted!
