40. Cravings

"Geet you are positively glowing." Sameera exclaimed as she welcomed Geet with a kiss on her cheek. "I've never seen a more beautiful expectant mother. You inspire me to create a new collection for pregnant women. Now that is a thought!"

"Thank you Sam. Congratulations on your sucess." They were at the party which celebrated Sam's success of the new launch.

It was not just the pregnancy that added glow to her face Geet thought, it was the happiness and peace of being with the one you loved. Maan relieving himself of the bouquet put his arms around his wife's non-existent waist as if he couldn't help but keep constant contact with her. Geet lifted her face up to gaze at him. Yes, it was from the bright hope of knowing that he was starting to feel for her more than deep affection...he may be starting to l... no she didn't want to put it into words...she was happy with just the hope and the thrill that it brought. She didn't want to think about the consequences of it, the way it may alter her pre planned notions. For now she just wanted to be in this fools paradise. Enjoy being with him. Feel the glory of his kisses, she thought with a blush and the caresses that became more intense with each passing day...the touches that made her restless with yearning, that made her body react with pleasure... Like the time when her breasts had felt so heavy and swelled at the restless movement of his hand, when they kissed. She couldn't control the reactions of her body and he must have felt it too...his hands had moved to cup... she could feel her breasts swelling in anticipation of a repeat... her throat felt dry all of a sudden and she prayed no one would notice the hightened color of her cheeks. Maan looked down to see the remnants of her thoughts in her eyes making his eyes darken in answer. His hand moved in a caress along her ribcage and he moved slightly so that she could feel strength of his hard chest on her back. Maan found Daadi and Sam in conversation and leaned down to whisper in Geet's ears

"What are you thinking of, Geet? What are you blushing at?"

She shook her head, holding it down. " Kuch toh hei! Why else is that lovely red staining your cheeks? Bolo na, Geet?"

"How about it Maan?" Daadi asked diverting his attention.

"I ... What about what?"

"Godh barayi, Maan. I was telling Sameera I loved the decorations and would use the same event managers for godh barayi." Daadi looked at him expectantly drawing his participation in the conversation.

Rudr saw Sameera looking towards the entrance repeatedly. Was she anxious for him? of course, because though they still went about their cat and mouse game, there was no doubt about their feelings for each other. He was late to the party because he had to attend an important phone call. She wasn't aware he had already inside the party hall. But the call will alter the pace of their romance. He walked to wards her.

"Looking for someone?" he asked softly into her ears.

She turned around surprised to see that he had already arrived without her knowledge. "You are late!" she accused.

"And you look beautiful even when you scold me!" He kissed her cheek.

"Don't evade...why are you late?"

"Mmm...will tell you later." He said not wanting anything to dampen her spirit.

He ran a caressing hand along her arm and felt her shiver.

"Oh! Suspense!" she said nonchalantly but the catch in her voice betrayed the effect of his caress.

" Nothing like that..it can wait. Can I interest you to a dance my lady?"

Sam placed her hand in his with a smile and they joined the other couples in the dance floor.

Her husband could be the most insensitive arrogant man in the world. She looked at the bland food that was there in her plate. Okay so the doctor had advised her to keep off spicy food especially at night as she was suffering from heart burn since the last few weeks.to her woe Maan was present when the doctor gave her advise and since then he was watching her eating habits like a hawk. Loaded with the information from the Internet, he didn't even let her take water during her meals. Maan had banned spicy food for dinner at home. So she didn't get the temptation to have them at home. But here at the party the buffet presented the aroma of her different favorite dishes, making her mouth water. Geet eagerly waited for her plate, but she didn't take into account Maan would supervise the food in her plate. She sadly looked at the salads in her plate. She looked at the parathas wistfully and caught Daadi's sympathetic eyes on her. Just a teeny bite wouldn't hurt, now would it? Her eyes pleaded. Daadi looked at Maan and shook her head. "Please" Geet made a long face. Her expression so soulful that Daadi's resolve melted. Daadi closed her eyes and agreed to distract Maan. Geet pushed her food around in her her plate waiting for Maan to finish his food.

"Maan, Mrs. Sharma wanted to meet you. they are thinking about a resort in Manali and wanted to talk to you regarding that."
"She can contact me at the office."

"but beta, I'll told her I will talk to u. she was most eager. There she is,,,and she is looking this way." Daadi urged.

"But Daadi Geet hasn't ..."

"You go on Maan, I'll be here...it will take me time to finish this Khas poos!" Geet encouraged.

Daadi and Maan walked towards her friend. She waited a bit to see Maan was occupied in conversation before making a beeline for the buffet. The variety of Punjabi dishes made her mouth water. But she decided not to be greedy. I know papa wouldn't approve, so I will take only little. I am allowed that, hei na Sonu? She consoled herself by including baby in her plans. "See only one paratha, a bit of butter chicken and a little pickle...that is not too much na?" she muttered to herself as she wistfully looked at the abundance in the table. Sighing she was on her way back to the seat when she felt her dupatta slipping. Holding the plate in one hand she tried to adjust the duppatta, but it kept slipping.

"Here let me help you" came a voice as he took the plate.

"Thanks, "" she said and took a double take when saw that it was Maan. He looked at her and then at the plate pointedly.

"Woh...Maan...I..."

"Yes?" Maan quirked an eyebrow.

"Give me back my plate!" she commanded trying to grab at the plate.

"No!" Maan held on. She resisted her impulse to stamp her foot.

"It's just a little bit..." she pouted.

"No...you know what the doctor said. No spicy food at night."

"But... Shona says its okay" Geet argued. Maan shook his head in negative.

"Please, Maan..." Maan looked away not wanting to fall for her pleading look. Geet could feel him relenting and moved to face him. She turned his face back to look at her and gave him her best mournful look.

"Please Maan...just a couple of bites... please?"

"Ahhh...don't look at me like that, you know I cant say no when you plead like that..." he sighed, "all right then. Just a few bites and you will have to share."

"Thank you Maan." A smile of absolute happiness brightened her face, making him catch his breath.

He led her to a quiet corner of the room and fed her himself. Once she finished her food and came back from rinsing her mouth he took something from his pocket and gave it to her.

"What is this?" Geet asked taking it.

"Ginger candy, I read that it is good for heartburn."

"But why did you have it with you?"

"I thought you may need it..."

Geet's eyes misted at his care. She linked her arm thru his and leaned her head on his shoulder and said with a tear clogged voice, "thank you ..."

She sat up in the middle of the night, dislodging the arm that was placed on her stomach. Dreams of caramel custard pudding were making it impossible for her to sleep.

"Kya hua, Geet?" asked Maan groggily.

"Caramael custard!"

"What?" Maan asked still disoriented from the deep sleep.

"Maan you didn't let me eat dessert!" she said in sad voice.

"What!"

"You didn't let me eat dessert." Geet accused.

"So?..." he looked at the time in the luminous clock. "I'll 2 o' clock, Geet!"

"So? Can I help it if I dream of Caramel custard? It was there in the party...I so wanted to eat it..." her voice turned pitiful.

"Okay...okay don't cry. We'll tell the cook to make it tomorrow.You can have an extra helping." He consoled.

"But I can't sleep Maan...i want it now!" she insisted "...and don't blame me it shona drools..."

"Now don't get started on that...I know the baby drools if the cravings are not satisfied."

"Exactly!" she placed a caressing hand on her tummy. "It wouldn't look good if your daughter drools." Geet pointed out. Maan placed his hand on her stomach and felt the kick immediately. He chuckled.

"SEE!"

"All right. How can I win when you girls gang up against me?" he moved to get down from the bed and helped her too. He knew he will have to made the pudding. Placing his arm around her shoulder he pulled her closer as they walked towards the kitchen. "But tell me this Geet, why does the baby become my daughter whenever you get these midnight cravings?"
