In support, I'll mention a Pakistani serial which we had seen on net last year...Generally they are allotted predefined nos. of episodes...on some recommendation by friend...20 episodes serial 'meri zaat zarra e benishaan he' is a must watch for any one interested in visual dramas. Its conciseness, story, editing, casting, acting, background score, script, direction...every aspects are class apart...would venture as far as comparing it to Indian movie classics like Anand, Andhi, naykan...watch it if u have time...20 odd episodes each @ 35 min. available on you tube, though streaming is somewhat poor there'But it teaches one, how a tale could be told on serialization...else am agreeing...YRKKH would be last one with already a waning interest...

G'night, Ladies.

This is exactly what I had in mind. I have been scouring YT for Pakistani serials lately. I just happened to come across a new one; it just completed about 9 of 21 episodes. No dhamakas, no overly done faces, jewelry, subtle romance, simple stories with beautiful screenplay. It's a weekly. I will definitely watch the one you mentioned coz I have been looking for more since I got hooked on this one.

'Meri zaat zarra e benishaan' roughly meaning 'This self; part of purity (be nishaan= without blemish) adopted from novel by Umaira Ahmed...I saw it in company with my wife. Every Saturday night, roughly after midnight its fresh part would appear on net- if out on Sat night with friends then eagerly watch it on Sunday...we had a good friend on a chat thread who would explain some difficult Urdu words or social contexts and we would have had a fine discussion, conveniently spaced out on whole week...The beauty of understated treatment fully exploited throughout, but never faltering on logic on any front or loose ends. Of the characters, the Hero is exuberant but vulnerable and yet nowhere effeminate. The heroine was goodness all, but never boringly so and nowhere self effacing as the breed we are bombarded here with. But even more surprising is the villain (Mother). She is not only normal and real but her actions are fully within a logical flow of the story. All three were strikingly carried out by masterful actors Faisal Qureshi, Samiya Mumtaz and last but not least Samina Parzada . The last actor eclipsed even the leads for a period- when in portrayal of her natural consumption by her own guilt. The retribution was so natural that it gives one a complete viewer's satisfaction on punishment to the evil deeds ( so unlike hasty/ half hearted tracks here)...The second lead pair Imraan Abbas and Sarwat Gillani were neatly fitting the high standards...in nutshell a worthwhile exp...if possible, after a few sample episodes (mind u, story starts attaining its crescendo after 5th or 6th epi.)...u ought to by DVDs which must be available in US...

I have already started watching & I'm on the 4th episode. I'm hooked! If my body didn't give in I would have covered all episodes😆 But the weekend has just begun😉 Humsafar the one I'm currently watching is also along the same lines. I'm wondering if situations like these are common place or maybe I just hit upon 2 stories that are on similar lines😕 The print is pretty good. I use the English-Urdu translator online for the not so obvious words. Whatever did we do w/o internet?😲 Thank you smrth!

A pretty Sunday morn. And a savoured muse to mull over...😊

Not that it (MZZB) is entirely free of flaws. Some of its earlier dialogues were misleading- not precisely factual with what unfolded later on (but actually commented as the past)- but they were deliberately so-in build up of a certain enigma. Some logic is strained or ambiguous- especially how Saba kept herself incognito for 18 years of employment under that very Arfeen, who has primed himself every ounce in search of her, but yet not a hunch of her closer presence even in whiff- even when she was bonding caringly with his motherless child all along? The explanation- strict self concealment by Saba (Parda- veil) is somewhat stretched. But then not entirely illogical. And its purpose towards the narration of tale- to transpose tragedy into a happier alliance of later generation- to fulfil the unfinished- is arguable...The abundant use of flashbacks tests the finest limits of screenplay acumen and must say, I had never seen such dexterous finesse in the script which had inimical danger of falling apart at such frequency of interspersed past and presence in medley. It came out with flying colours. Each transition absolutely adding to the beauty and build up of storytelling...I can go on and on. We had a nice chat thread on IF where we would analyze characters, acting and many other things. We came across some interesting titbits. Like lead actor Samya Mumtaz is niece of Zohra Sehgal- Other lead Faisal Qureshi (Arfeen) and other character- Adil's mother are real life mother-son duo...some light on marriage customs ( difference bet'n Nikah and Rukhsati, rights of mehr etc.). Some Urdu words were explained contextually...over all a fine experience.👏

Co-opting post synergy (to spare mods): Perhaps inaccurate to compare YRKKH with this concise gem (700+ vs.20 epi). Two products marketing goals are different perhaps. While MZZB is aiming to score a grade output for its production house which can enjoy reward of next airtime allocation, YRKKH is aiming to retain it perpetually- or as long as possible. In this light, 700+ odd episodes and still hogging the prime time slot is no less an achievement.
