Actually, in those times, and even much later, childrearing was mostly the domain of the mothers - the fathers would leave that to them, assuming that everything else was going smoothly. It was after they grew up some that the fathers would be more involved. But no father would, on seeing the rowdy behavior of his kids, just stand quietly in embarrassment wondering what the mother was doing - he'd step in and take control himself.
I didn't say that all modern day women talk like that - I know they don't. But the way Susheela talked to Sudama, shouting @ him, was exactly like what we see in other serials when you have an unhinged woman yelling @ everybody. In those times, it was perfectly possible that a woman would blow her top and yell @ her sons, bahus, daughters, devars and so on, but it was inconceivable that she'd yell @ her husband in that manner. That was a pathetic portrayal of Susheela's character, and it's worth remarking on since this one is a fabricated story, unlike the earlier one (except perhaps the Chakradhar parts)
Another thing they showed in Monday night's episode was Susheela sleeping on the bed w/ her 4 children, & Sudama sleeping on the ground. This was tough to digest.
