New Sony Show 'Vaidehi'

Vaidehi…Ek aur agni pareeksha is the story of a 21-year-old young, spirited girl ,Vaidehi, who comes from a middleclass family. This young girl had small dreams---of a loving husband, supportive family and a small house to call her own. One day, out of the blue, in a true fairy tale-like fashion, Vaidehi's parent's receive a marriage proposal for their daughter from one of the richest families in the country--the Jaisinghs. Her family could not believe their luck. Imagine the richest family asking for the hand of their daughter for their handsome son Aryavardhan .For everyone who gets to know about the alliance it is going to be a fairy tale wedding, but Vaidehi is apprehensive. She wonders what is the reason that Aryavardhan ,who could get any rich and affluent girl in the country, must ask for her hand. Her family and friends tell her that she is the chosen one and she must just happily get in to this marriage.

But Vaidehi is still not convinced. How can she ever adjust to this environment? What is it about this marriage? However once she sees Aryavardhan he sweeps her off her feet. She goes thro' the wedding, a true fairy tale wedding. With stars in her eyes and dreams in her heart she enters the corridors of Jaisingh mansion, where away from her knowledge lies a dark secret. On her wedding night she realizes that the wedding was a faade. It was not in any way a fairy tale ending…but the beginning of a nightmare. She finds herself trapped in this marriage. Vaidehi's life comes to a standstill. She has to go through the ultimate test … the Agnipareeksha!!!

What is the secret that lurks within the corridors of Jaisingh mansion? What happens when the truth unveils before Vaidehi? Whom does she turn to for support? Or does she have to fight a lone battle for herself? Will she ever find true love?

Aroona Irani's latest show, Vaidehi on Sony TV which premieres today, is based on the real-life trauma of one of her closest friend. Irani confirms, "Yes it's true that Vaidehi is based on the story of a very close friend of mine, but I would not like to mention her name. After marriage, she had a weird problem that women normally do not have. The worst part was she could not mention this to anyone in her family and that's when she confided in me five years ago. When I heard what she told me, I could not believe that something like that could happen to anyone," says Irani.

"When I recently met my friend again, I remembered what she had disclosed to me five years ago. I decided right then that her story could be the plot of my film and I later told her that I was going to base my next serial on her. She had no problems with it as long as her identity was protected, something I promised I would do."

Aroona is not apprehensive about the viewership of Vaidehi. "Women constitute the biggest chunk of our viewers. But Vaidehi will have an equal number of men watching it too, mainly because of the uniqueness of the problem my protagonist faces. Vaidehi begins today and I'm nervous. There are butterflies in my stomach and I have my fingers crossed," says Irani.

Pallavi Kulkarni who plays the title role in Vaidehi is over the moon as she is doing a serial after Kehta Hai Dil that enjoyed a successful run and brought her into the limelight. Screen talks to the husky-voiced actress... After Kehta Hai Dil there has been a considerable gap.
Yes! But don't think that serials weren't coming my way. In fact, I took a delibrate gap. This is the time I went out with my family and had a refreshing break. After that I started looking at good offers that would serve me good both professionally and financially. Even while doing Kehta Hai Dil I did not want to overwork and burn myself. I was only doing that one serial as it kept me occupied for 15 days a month. The rest of the days, I did ads, read a lot and spent quality time with my family and friends. What happened after you decided to return?
While I was waiting for good offers, I was approached by Aroona Irani's production house. After a few sittings and photo shoots I was chosen to play the title role. But all said and done the sailing was smooth. Tell us about your role in Vaidehi?

We have shot just five episodes. Since it is a weekly, it does not matter much. But we are all working hard.

You had done some serials prior to Kehta Hai Dil?
Yes I did Aaaj Bhi Ateet, Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat after which I did Kehta Hai Dil.The first three actually didn't serve my purpose but Kehta Hai Dil made me famous.

Sony launches 'Vaidehi-Ek aur agni pareeksha'

Sony Entertainment Television, in a bid to regain its No. 2 position has launched yet another new show called 'Vaidehi-Ek aur agni pareeksha', which is the story of a 21-year-old young, spirited girl, Vaidehi, who comes from a middle class family. This young girl had small dreams, of a loving husband, supportive family and a small house to call her own.

This is the first of the 10.00 pm shows to replace Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, Vaidehi, starting June 5, is a story of a simple middle class girl with stars in her eyes and dreams in her heart. The channel claims that the story deals with a social cause, a problem which is not very common yet one which exists and perhaps has never been talked about in films or TV.

The story - A rich family wants Vaidehi, a middle-class girl, to marry their elder son. After the initial reluctance, the girl gets married but all is not hunky-dory and so be- gins her trial by fire. Today most women being financially independent do walk out of a bad marriage, in the sanctity of marriage, they say there is a point up to which you can take torture, but if somebody is going to throttle you, you will obvi- ously defend yourself.

Jai Singh wins best businessman award for the seventh time. Harshwardhan Jaisingh hates the media and does not allow in the party but promised to talk to the media after the party. Arundhati, the reporter tricks and gets inside the party. Harshwardhan (Kiran Kumar) comes to the party. Arundhati is recording the party with her mobile. She looks for Sita Devi whom nobody has seen at all, and nobody knows who she is. Maithali Yashwardhan Jaisingh is excited as it is her first party in the house. Arundhati starts talking to her and Bhumija, Harshwardhan's daughter comes and saves her.. Bhumija asks Arundhati to leave but she hangs around recording the party and family members (it is more like she is introducing the members to the viewers). Yashwardhan Jaisingh (Harshwardhan's second son) flirts with a girl in the party. Sita Devi comes to the party. Harshwardhan comes and takes out the sim fro her cell and asks his men to take her out. Harshwardhan is rude and says it is his house and he rules. Aryan Jaisingh joins the party. Harshwardhan and Aryan goes to meet the media.

Media asks Harshwardhan to talk about his personal life. He says he has two daughters and three sons. Harshwardhan talks about Aryan and Yash. Arundhati asks about Akash, his youngest son. Harshwardhan says Aakash loves the sky more than the land. Media asks he has three sons but only one daughter in law. Harshwardhan says once Aakash stops flying, he will marry him off too. Arundhati asks what about Aryan's marriage? Harshwardhan says Aryan was already married and everybody knows about the tragedy. Arundhati says he Janaki had very short life. 5 years and three months and Aryan never thought of marrying again. Aryan and Harshwardhan keeps quite. Aryan says he loved his wife and still misses her. Arundhati says your young daughter Yuvi and asks if he never met a girl in past 5 yrs and 3 months who could get him out of Janaki's memories. Arundhati asks what is the reason behind Aryan not marrying again. She says Janaki's death was a mysterious one. Harshwardhan announces that he is getting Aryan married and looking for a suitable girl for him.

Sita Devi sees the news on tv and asks Harshwardhan how could they get Aryan married? He says he doesn't want to listen to a question which he can't answer. Sita Devi questions that he still wants to get married Aryan even after what happened in the past. Harshwardhan says he had no option to stop the people talk about it so he had to say it to stop people from talking. He says Aryan would definitely get married again and this time the daughter in law won't be like Janaki. Sita Devi is shocked to hear this but she can't say anything to her dominating husband.

Sita Devi goes to the temple and prays to goddess to save the girl whoever will get married to Aryan. At the meantime, they show Vaidehi stepping in the temple. Vaidehi and Sita Devi collide. They know eachother. Vaidehi says it is her birthday and asks Sita Devi to give her blessing to get married, have a nice husband and have a load of children. Vaidehi is so sweet she prays for "aunty". She prays to goddess for toys to the kids in the chawl etc. She goes to her father's office. She collides with Aryan. Vaidehi's father says sorry to the Jaisinghs. Mittals come to Jaisings with proposal of their daughter to Aryan. Harshwardhan says he already chose bride for Aryan. Sita Devi is shocked. Harshwardhan says he is going to announce the gal soon. Harshwardhan tells Sita Devi that he can't get Aryan married to Mittal's daughter and that there are so many girls in the city who would be available for Aryan.

Harshwardhan thinks about Vaidehi. The next morning, he goes to the chawl and to Dixit. Dixit is shocked to see Harshwardhan in his door. Harshwardhan asks Dixit for Vaidehi's hand for Aryan. Vaidehi arrives while Harshwardhan is leaving. She is shocked and tells her father. She says why would Harshwardhan want to marry Aryan to her. She refuses to marry Aryan. Dixit tells Harshwardhan that Vaidehi refused. Harshwardhan tells Aryan that he knows what to do. Aryan starts visiting Vaidehi and Vaidehi starts liking him. She says yes to marry Aryan.

Harshwardhan shows the photo of Vaidehi as gal for Aryan in the family. Everybody likes her. Sita Devi is shocked to see that it is Vaidehi. She tells herself that Vaidehi should not marry Aryan and that she will tell Vaidehi herself to refuse to marry Aryan..
