HE HAS the classic Indian playback singer's voice and has been compared to Udit Narayan. With his boy-next-door-looks and his winning tune Mere Saath Saara Jahan on his lips, Indian Idol 2 winner Sandeep Acharya rocked Pune crowd on June 3.
In the city to launch his album Mere Saath Saara Jahan, Acharya admits the comparison to Narayan works well for him. He says, "It also puts a lot of pressure since I have to live up to my listeners' expectations, but I take it as a compliment and try to sing at my best."
The journey from a shy guy to a rockstar saw improvement not only in his singing but in his dance as well. And the video proves it! He laughs, "No, I didn't appoint an instructor. Harshad Kamat, the choreographer, saw the way I was performing to Mere ... and insisted that it was perfect for the song."
The lyrics of the songs have been penned by Sameer while the music has been given by Sandeep Chowta, who Acharya admits, to have immensely influenced his music.
The album also has few tracks which he sang during the gala rounds in the contest like Sagar Jaisi Aankho Wali (his favourite) and Papa Kehte Hain. Though he is missing his home in Bikaner, Sandeep sums up, "I have not visited home after the contest. But I am not missing it as much now since people in Pune have always made me feel at home."
