Hi everyone, I spent the whole week meeting and interviewing maids and endedup realizing that it is tough to procure a good help. They are the back bone ofour homes and we rely on them more than we know.
I had a harrowing time interviewing maids, as most come with their own set ofrules and regulations. Getting a good help seems like a gargantuan task. I neverdreamt that interviewing maids would be difficult but the ones we met set usback. Maids have demands like the house shouldn't be rented and how does thatmatter to them I don't understand. Another one embarrassed poor Ishaanclaiming he might ask for a towel and it might lead to something. I wanted topay the maid handsomely but Ishaan reduced the fee to less than half.
Imagine a maid does so much work and gradually like our Meena becomes a partof the family. Meena helps us with the kitchen and all over the house. We giveher not just the salary and food but love and respect as well. Do these maidsunderstand that? Perhaps not! But I also understand that everyone has to earn aliving, yet if you make reasonable demands one can adjust but these are amusingand exasperating at the same time.
Ishaan and I are missing home and have been celebrating Diwali in Mumbai allalone. I am sure everyone back home must be having lots of fun. When we calledthem to our surprise, they asked us not to come. We wondered if everyone wasangry with us but Badi ma explained that we should light our new home in Mumbaiwhich I guess made sense.
Both Ishaan and I had fun lighting the diyas, doing Laxmipujan, eating sweetsand burning crackers. Well, celebrating Diwali with the family is a totallywonderful feeling and though I am enjoying my time and my Diwali with Ishaan, Imiss everyone back home. I wish I could have been with them.
