Hi everyone, I am back with updates earlier than I had planned. I just thought that you all will be waiting and if I wait another week, the flow of hte story will be disturbed. So, since I am very generous (as you all well know) I am giving six updates this weekend. Two each day and then the next will be friday next week or the weekend...
I am expecting lovely comments and plz hit hte like button. If I get a good response, I will update on tuesday as it is my day off and I technically will be able to take some time off studying.
Plus, from now on ARJUN KHURANA is VEER KHURANA as two arjuns are confusing as I agree.

Chapter 6: The new Guest

After the fiasco during the meeting, Annie had decided to give the renovation of the house some rest. Arjun had to calm down and even Maan had to clear his mind. He had given Naintara a good hearing that evening when she came to visit and hadn't bothered to lower his tone infront of all the elders. Yuvraj made him stop when Naintara started crying but Maan didn't care. With a last word, that she should never interfere in his work again, he left for his room. All night long, he saw the beautiful face and the big tears that escaped her eyes, all because of Naintara. He thought a lot about what connection there was between Arjun and this girl because he had never even seen or heard of her before. He thought about making an inquiry but then he stopped. He and Arjun had a history and this was one part of his life he did not want to repeat.

Annie got a call from Romeo. He fixed an appointment with his boss and also send the car for her. When Annie got down, she was stunned to read the name: Khurana Publishing House.

"This way Annie. Veer sir is already waiting." The office was large and luxerious. Compared to Khurana Constructions, this office more interesting. The interior designer had taken into account one important factor: books. They were every where.

"Welcome Miss Walkers." Veer shook her hand and they sat down.

"I would prefer Annie, Mr Khurana"

"Then make that Veer. Romeo couldn't stop when he met you the first time in the book store. He is a great fan of yours." Annie blushed slightly and didn't know what to say.

"Are you on a visit here?"

"Not really. The thing is like this'" Annie explained about the call and her inheritance. She also told Veer about her being Maan's client.

"Ah, I have heard about the little fight between Maan and Arjun."

"If I may ask, do they have some personal problems or is it because they are business rivals?"

"They used to be best friends. Inseperable. I don't know what happened but over night they turned hostile towards each other."

"I guess then my decision of making them work together is not ok?" Veer smiled.

"I wouldn't bother about that. They are mature enough to keep their differences away from business. Where is this house of yours, anyways?"

"It is the castle in Gayatrinagar." Veer raised his brows.

"Why on earth do you want to get that place renovated? Do you want to live there?"

"Not really. I am thinking about writing my next novel about the castle and will stay stere till I get enough inspiration. But till then, I am stuck at my hotel."

"Surely you are not. Renovation and rebuilding can take months." He thought for a minute and looked at Annie. He wasn't the type to interfer in someone's personal issues but he couldn't deny that he was a secret fan of Anvesha. He picked his phone and called home.

"Nakul, outhouse saaf karwado. Mom ko bolo ke meri ek mehmaan waha kuch dino ke liye rahegi. (Nakul, get the outhouse cleaned. Tell mom my guest will stay there for a few days.)"

Annie didn't agree, afterall how could she stay there just like this. Veer convinced her that she could move out as soon as she found a better place.

Nakul informed everyone about the new guest. Dadi made her way to the outhouse to meet this person who was invited by the one person she would have least expected to bring home a female friend.

"Hello my dear." Dadi knocked on the door.

"Hello ma'am. I am Anvesha." Annie didn't know how to greet the old Indian lady and remembered her own grandmother. Dadi was slightly taken aback when this foreign girl touched her feet.

"Call me Dadi." Dadi made Annie sit and systematically questioned her about her stay and how she met Veer. Dadi was happy somehow that Veer brought Annie home, especially since she didn't have anyone she could call her own. Annie felt so nice to talk to Dadi. After a long time did she feel having family. Her eyes filled up and she wiped the tears away quickly.

"What happened, beta?"

"Nothing, you just remind me of my own Dadi. She used to be just like you." Dadi patted her cheek.

"Then think of me as your own Dadi. Now take some rest. I will let you know when we have our meal." Dadi left Annie who changed and had a nap.

"Mera pota bhi kitna budhu hain. Itne dino tak kisi ladki ke taraf dekha bhi nahi aur ab, jab sagae hogae to itni pyaari ladki ko ghar laya. (My grandson is such a dumbo. For so many days he didn't even look at a girl and now that he is engaged, he brought home such a sweet one.)" Dadi shook her head and went back to the mansion.

Everyone was home for dinner and Dadi went herself to call Annie. Annie had put on one of the dresses she had brought during her free time in the markets and inspected herself in the mirror. The Khuranas were very rich people and she felt like having to look at her best.

"My, my, my. You look wonderful beta." Dadi made Annie twirll.

"Indian clothes suit you a lot. Wait." Dadi unlocked the adjescent room and removed something form the cupboard.

"No, Dadi. I can't take this." Dadi was putting on a simple but expensive necklace onto Annie's neck.

"I won't hear a no. You call me Dadi so I have this right now." Seeing Annie's sceptical look she said:

"I didn't have a daughter and neither did my son. For me, you are like that daughter I always wanted. Please don't say no."

"Anything for you Dadi." Annie said, giving in.

Annie and Dadi entered Khurana Mansion Annie admired it very much. They met Sheija and Yuvraj, who had heard about the guest from Dadi earlier on the day. Then Dev joined and so did Maan and Veer.

"What is she doing here?" Maan asked Veer.

"She is my client and I told her to stay here for a few days." Maan looked at Veer.

"What, don't give me that look. It is bad enough everyone else did. I just helped her out. Do you know that her books are best selling in Italy? I hope to get her to sign a contract with me."

"A few more favours and I am sure she will agree." Maan smiled and made Veer feel embarressed.

Dinner was much to Annie's taste. Maan, Veer and Dev had lasagna since they were great fan of Italian food. Annie liked it a lot but also tried some Indian food, much to Sheija's and Dadi's delight.

"See, you young men have no appreciation for our Indian food. Even a foreign girl is having them." Annie felt bad because the others were getting to hear but they brushed it off with a smile.

"So tell us Annie, where is this house of yours?" Yuvraj asked. Annie repeated everything, for the third time today.

"And you don't know who you inherited the place from?" Yuvraj inquired. Annie shook her head.

"I only know the name of the lawyer'Mr Ranveer Talwar I think it is. I also met with the caretaker of the castle but she said he never met with the old owner."

"Caretaker? But the man died many years ago."

"What is it dad?" Maan asked later on when everyone else had retired.

"I am not sure, Maan, but I think there is something fishy going on. Many years ago I tried to buy the area around the castle and at that time I was told that the owner is unknown. No matter how much I inquiered, I couldn't find a name. Now Annie says that she inherited the place. Why would someone leave this castle to a perfect stranger?"

"Who knows if Annie is not related with the previous owner?" Maan replied.

"No Maan, didn't you hear what Annie said earlier on. Her great grandmother was Indian and married an Italian. They moved to Italy and her grandmother, mother and herself were born there. None of them ever came to India. If she really stands in connection wit the old owner, the line would go back so many generations. I think this is very unlikely." This made even Maan think.

"Shall I make a few inquires?" he then asked.

"No, I think we will leave the matter for now. The next round of functions is going to start soon and I don't want any disturbance."

Chapter 7: Pinky

Amro prepared some snacks and tea. It was time for Pinky to come back home and her daughter would first inquire about something to eat. Amro shook her head. Pinky was so like her father. Mohan Manchanda was also very foodie and came into the kitchen in search for the warm samosas.

"Chaddo ji, yeh Pinky ke liye hain. (Leave them, they are for Pinky.)" Her husband made a face.

"What is this Amro ji. You only think about Pinky. It is as if I don't even exist."

"Don't say that. It is just that want to keep my daughter happy for as long as I can. I once didn't take care and'" Amro stopped and tears flooded her eyes. Mohan wiped them.

"Don't blame yourself, Amro. It wasn't your fault that she got lost. Even I should have taken care of her." After a few minutes he continued:

"We might have lost once child but see, god gave us another one in the form of Pinky. So what if you didn't give birth to her? I bet, no one would have done such a fine job at raising her like you did, not even her own mother." Amro nodded but a thought came into her mind.

"What if' what if they come back for her? I don't want them to take my baby away from me."

"Noone will take her away from us. The didn't care about her then, they won't care now. As long as I am here, noone will take Pinky away from us." A sound made them jump. The door just closed announcing Pinky's entry.

"Maa, papa. I am back home."

"Lo, your dear daughter is home. Maybe now I will get one of your delicious samosas."

The entire village of Hoshiarpur was in celebration. Brij, the grandson of the villiage head was getting engaged today to Preeti. Both families were extremly happy about this alliance and so were the bride and groom to be. Preeti had liked Brij since a long time and she knew her parents wanted them to get married for years now. Brij had agreed but under the condition that he finishes his degree first. He grew fond of Preeti and her sweet and nave way.

The rings were exchanged and sweets were distributed. Brij held one piece in front of Preeti's mouth, who felt too shy to take a bite. Just when she opened her mouth, Brij popped the entire sweet into his mouth, leaving Preeti dejected.

"Oye Brij, stop teasing me daughter." Tejawar ruffled Brij's hair and gave him another piece. Preeti took a bite and made sure to bite Brij's fingure, too.

"Ouch, that hurt." Preeti smiled and gave him a quick wink before she rushed to her friends.

Outside the tents, the old man on his stick waited patiently. The man he was waiting for arrived.

"What is it? I told you not to call me. The entrie village is here to celebrate."

"This is exactly why noone will bother us. This girl is not leaving any time soon. I saw a bunch of people and one of them was for sure Maan Singh Khurana. I think she is getting the building renovated."

"Argh. This is not possible." The other man tried to think quickly.

"I don't want any other person near that house or anywhere near that village for that matter. Get rid of the root of the problem, I will send you your payment when the work is done."

Annie had a great time in Khurana Mansion. She went along with Dadi and Sheija for shopping and Dadi insisted on buying just as many things for her as for her other grand children. Sheilja didn't let Annie protest and so Annie tried on a lot of new dresses and jewelleries.

"Ma'am, aap ki bahu wakehi bohut sundar hain. (Ma'am, your daughter-in-law is very pretty indeed.)" The sales assistant commented after Annie tried on another dress. Sheija was a little taken aback at this comment. She hadn't realised that their bringing Annie along for wedding shopping was making such an impression on people.

"Kash yeh humari bahu hoti. (I wish she was.)" Dadi said with a sigh.

"Maaji, yeh aap kya kehrahi hain? (Mom, what are you saying?)" Sheilja was shocked at her mother-in-laws comment.

"Sahi to hain. Annie humari bahu hoti to kitna accha hota. Mana ke puri hindustani nahin hain lekin phir bhi Nitya aur Naintara se kaafi siyada tameez aur sanskaar hain isme. (What is wrong in that? How nice would it be if Annie would be our daughter-in-law. I agree she is not entirely Indian but she has more manners and values that Nitya and Naintara.)"

After they were done with their shopping, Dadi and Sheija took some rest at a caf. Annie saw a stall on the other side of the road that sold anklets.

"Dadi, mom, I am back in a second. I just want to get myself an anklet." She rushed off and had a look. They were nothing special and so she came back dejectedly. She crossed the road and out of nowhere a car came and hit Annie. Annie crashed and the car disappeared without even stopping ot see what damage it had caused.

Yuvraj hadn't wasted a minute to set an inquiry. He made a police complaint about the unknown person or persons who were responsible for Annie's accident and also enganged a private investigator to find out about who the previous owner of the castle was.

Dadi and Sheilja had seen the incident and were certain that it was no accident. Annie had been taken to hospital where the doctors gave the good news that she had no serious injuries. Her head needed a bandage and her leg a few stitches and rest.

Arjun was back in Mumbai. Since his trip to Delhi his mood wasn't getting any better. Geet's health was improving but the last night she stayed there, her fever had returned and this time it was worse than ever.

Arohi couldn't stop blaming herself. She had given into Geet's pleas of going to Delhi for Arjun's birthday and even Rajeshwari felt guilty for letting Geet go alone to KC while she was completing her assignment.

She shorthandedly decided to stay with Geet, till she wasn't all better and no matter how much Geet protested, Rajeshwari didn't hear her out.

"But Rajji, what about your college?"

"Di, I have taken a transfer to a local college." Geet didn't like this at all.

"All because of me, haina? I am always ill and have to be taken care off. You all can't enjoy your life and are tied down to me." Geet went emotional. Rajeshwari felt like taking Geet into her arms.

"Never say that di. Babaji will make you well soon and till then we all have an excuse to pamper you and take care of you. Once you are all fine, Arjun bhai will find a nice boy for you and then you are gone from here. What will I do then?" Rajji smiled and Geet blushed.

Rajji laughed and hugged Geet again. Arjun stood at the door. The smiling image of Geet was like water that spread over his burning mind and heart. Once moment of weakness made him confess in front of Rajji about his mistake, a sin in his opinion. Rajji had forgiven him and she was sure that Geet would, too. But could he forgive himself?

Dev sat in his cabin and had a file on his desk. He had the same page open like this morning and hadn't managed to read further than the first two lines. All he could see was the downcast face of Pinky who was silently sitting and doing her work. Never had he seen Pinky like this. From the first day she had joined KC, she was like a breath of fresh air in this dull environment. Not only him but every one else also liked Pinky very much.

Dev gave up and dialed her number.

"Yes sir?" she sounded just as gloomy as she looked.

"Come to my cabin Pinky." He saw her get up and walk towards him. He kept the door open for her and locked it behind her.

"For goodness sake, Pinky tell me what is bothering you?" He lifted her chin with his fingure.

"Nothing sir."

"Not sir. For once think of me as Dev, please. I can understand that you never took my advances seriously. I am fully to blame for that because I really didn't mean it at first. But the more I tried, the more I fell in love with you. Even if you don't love me at least consider me your friend. Tell me what is wrong." Pinky broke down and hugged Dev. Dev put his arms around her and caressed her head. She told him about the conversation she had overheard a few days ago. Dev couldn't understand what was bothering Pinky more. The fact that her parents never told her or that her real parents didn't want her.

"Neither of this two. I am just afraid that my real parents will come back one day and take me away from mumma and papa." Dev smiled.

"Don't you want to know who your real parents are?" he asked after some time.

"No. Those people are nothing to me." Dev kissed her on top of her head. He waited again before posing his old question.

"Pinky, will you be my girlfriend?" Pinky pushed him away and went towards the door.

"It was worth a try." Dev said sadly. Pinky stopped and turned. She smiled at Dev, who brightened up. She winked and closed the door.

"YES." He fell on his chair and spend the rest of the day persuing his favorite occupation: dreaming of Pinky.
