Hi Everyone!
Great to read all your views… trust me I didn't expect anything different.
Coming to the topic… May be I couldn't put it down to words properly. When I say the Jai that wasn't on screen wasn't the Jai I related to, I didn't mean I was missing the man who is always in control of a situation, a powerful business tycoon, an arrogant strong headed Khadoos. I was missing the Jai who tugged at my heart with just a simple glance and silent ways. I would never want Jai or Bani to change for eachother, I want them to accept eachother the way they are. But more than a character change, I felt it was inconsistency in the portrayal of the character not by the actor but by the people who wrote the scene. It is just my opinion. I could be wrong, but I don't think I misinterpreted Ram's discomfort during the 'Mujhe aise math dekho' scene. He was completely dissatisfied with that line. Ultimately it is the actr who puts lifes into the character he is portraying, and when he isnt convinced it shows and u cant do anything about it! And I do feel Ram is a very seasoned actor and for him such intricacies matter the most when it comes to developing the scene.
It isnt as if Jai hasn't apologized before. He has. Most of the times he doesn't say it, but his eyes say it all… it isnt his ego which stops him, it is coz he knows his verbal sorry wont match up to what he has done. Jai has always been the kind of a guy who admits to his mistake the moment he feels he is wrong. So this wasn't his 1st time apologizing.
Have Jai's thoughts ever needed words? Or has Bani needed to hear Jai to understand him? just one glance from Jai, and Bani knows what he is going through. Remember the moment when Bani came back after her Mom's barsi and Jai was MAD at her, the moment she mentioned why she was away… Jai's expressions changed. The look he gave her not just said that he was sorry, but she found so much of comfort in his presence that she poured her out to him. Wasn't Jai as genuine and humbled that day? Even in Goa when Bani showed up he was infuriated but the moment he came to know the truth, he had a "Sorry, I have been an idiot' kind of a look.
It has not that Jai has never avoided looking into Bani's eyes…. He has. But there was something amiss that kind of didn't elevate the scene to the magical heights, yday. There is no denying that it was a landmark scene… but it wasn't upto the mark. I am not blaming anyone but the creative directors and the director. If they have to maintain the magic of a character they have to be consistent about it… else these small details will go towards changing the character itself and before we will know, a beautiful character will be spoilt. I have seen that happen to some of the finest characters… from Mr. Bajaj to Angad. I actually felt I was seeing Mihir Virani, but there was a lot of pride in me to compare Jai to Mihir. I just might kill Ekta if she messes with Jai's character. Ram's discomfort was far to visible and that was proof enough that something was seriously wrong with that scene. To portray a character u need to know and understand its characteristic even though u cant relate or believe in the character. Ram didn't look convinced and his discomfort was striking on his face… it took away a lot from the scene. I don't understand why we should tolerate mediocre stuff just coz it is for TV and they don't have time to give a nice quality program.
Let me repeat myself at the risk of annoying u all.. I have a problem with the way it was portrayed and not with the characters perse or actors!
Luv
Anu.
