Manasi Salvi, who plays the title role in the new SaharaOne soap in Sati — Satya Ki Shakti, which premieres tonight, is almost unrecognisable.
But she's the same actress who was seen as Manasvi in Saarrthi (Star Plus) and earlier as Priti in Aashirwad (Zee), and Khushi in Koi Apna Sa (Zee).
"It's not surprising," says Salvi. "In the last year-and-a-half, I have shed 16 kg. So, this is an all-new me! In fact, when I began Saarrthi over a year ago, people were shocked to see me. Now, I have lost even more weight."
The actress says that for every show — and she prefers doing one soap at a time — she undergoes a complete transformation." During Koi Apna Sa, she looked pretty flabby on screen.
"After this show ended, I took a break and enrolled myself in an aerobics class. Later, I even turned aerobics instructor for a while; I used to conduct a class at Talwalkar's, Thane."
Aerobics, coupled with eating wise, began showing results in a couple of months.
"Sati is a daily, so of late, I don't have time to hit the gym, but I still stick to controlled eating. I give myself one day off in a week to eat anything and everything. I also don't eat at all after 8 pm. For more than a year, I have stuck to this and all the flab has disappeared," Mansi explains.
'All for the best'
The actress's track as the dutiful daughter-in-law Manasvi, in Saarrthi, has disappeared.
"I'm required to shoot for barely three days now. But I believe that whatever happens, happens for the best. As I had time on hand, I could take on another show, and Sati came my way."
This 8 pm daily, has her playing a lawyer, named Sati. "It is set in an all-woman legal firm and takes on both the professional and personal lives of the women.
What's unique is that throughout the show, I am dressed in black. Whatever the outfit, the colour remains black," says Manasi, who also featured in the Marathi film, Sari Var Sari. |
Being directed by hubby
| Manasi Salvi with Hemant Prabhu on their wedding day | Manasi Salvi married director Hemant Prabhu in January last year.
Prabhu has earlier directed shows like Rihaaee (Sony), Siddhant (Star One), Kundali (Star Plus), Kanyadaan (Sony) and Jasoos Vijay (DD).
The couple met on the sets of the Doordarshan show, Aakrosh.
"I was acting and he was the director of the show, " says Manasi.
Hemant is now directing her again, in Sati. "We were both approached independently for the show," says Manasi.
"We are both very professional, and on the sets, he is the director and I am just an actress, not his wife!" | |
