Part 154: Dev and Surender: both sides of a coin..

Radhika was making herself busy in things and RUhi was playing mostly around with Sammy and Lechu. They made the 'Ooouch 'sound as she fell on the floor after that waddling gait, she looked at them and then smiled showing her tiny front teeths out, and again trying to get on her feet she took her next effort to move further forward, and within seconds she hit the floor again, she laughed loud looking at Suchi, seeing herself on the fllor again... Suchi was unable to hold back that she took Ruhi in her arms and took few faster step to get near the toy that she was aiming at.

Surender came with a walking, barking stuffed doggy in his hand. And turned it on in front of RUhi. She looked at the doggy curiously ... turning its head, the doggy made its little cute bark at RUhi, she looked at him curiously with a doubt. The doggy barked again, as a reflex she held Suchi's dress tight.

Suchi: i think you are going to scare her

Surender: she is my pothi, how can she be scared !!, no way

Soon the doggy took its forward step.

Ruhi sitting in Suchi's arms looked at its move very seriously,

Sammy: mom, if you put her down, you will get the correct reaction

Lechu: why you want to scare her?

Sammy: let see what she does?

Surender: she is my grand daughter, she is not going to be scared, better if you people don;t scare her.. ok

Suchi placed her on the doggy's way. Ruhi looked at him again curiously and it barked twice prior to taking another step. Sammy and Lechu was looking at Ruhi curiosly and Suchi was ready to pick her up from the floor expecting that scary cry at any minute. As the doggy neard, Suchi extended her arm out to sweep her from the floor, but Ruhi took the forward move and held the Doggy within her strong hold, and said: uuu, uuu, uuu

Suchi: OMG!

Surender: I told you

Ruhi tried to grab the doggy further strong in her arms, but then it barked with a slight jerk, that the little one got scared: the house went silent and filled with Ruhi's throat.

Suchi: I told you, see we don't need any more toys, we are going to see the butterlies outside, heina beta, come, no no, don;t cry, see let see the butterflies, or let see whether there is any flowers in our garden, ok...saying that she went out to the garden

Sammy and Lechu followed Suchi to the garden

Surender felt thirsty that he went to the kitchen for a drink. He was about to turn grabbing the water bottle in his hand, he found Radhika , standing in a corner holding onto a vessel.

He sensed soemthing wrong, that he paused for few minutes watching her action, but then with his doubting mind, he went near her and called softly: radhika

He noticed the sudden jerk in her posture as she was faing away from him.

He called again: rahika

He saw her hands moving up quick and heard her heavy voice: ji

Surender: are you ok

Radhika nodding her head: ji

Surender: look at me

Radhika: ji?

Surender: I said you look at me

Radhika in her forceful voice: you need anything papa?

Surender felt her heavy voice , that he kept the water bottle away and forced her to turn.He couldn't believe the trail of tears in her eyes with red swollen lids

Surender: what is it beta

Radhika tried to bow her head further down to hide away from him... but then trying to bring a smile with quick swipe on her cheeks: nothing papa, can I get you anything?

Surender: radhika, I am asking you something, why you are crying

Radhika: vo papa, something fell in my eyes, and was irritating

Surender: Radhika, don't think I am a fool, what is it?

Radhika tried to be normal as much as possible: nothing papa, I am fine. I think it's time to feed RUhi, let me check on her

Surender let her move for few minutes, but then coming back to his senses, he walked faster and stopped her: tell me what is it?

Radhika: nothing papa

Surender: Radhika

Radhika : papa RUhi

Surender 's voice came out loud: can you please tell me what is it?

Radhika: I wish I could

Surender: Is everything ok

Radhika: I wish

Surender: where is Dev?

Radhika stood silently

Surender: I am asking you something, where is Dev?

Radhika: back in chandenpur?

Surrender: why he is not here?

Radhika forced her voice: he is busy

Surender: busy for what?

Radhika: vo, vo, somethtng

Surender: I am asking what is that something?

Radhika: please papa, I don't know, I don't know anything, I just don't know. She just cried loud and then her body went weak, and Surender held her tight, seeing her struggle, and his eyeballs just roamed inisde to find the reason behind her tears...

"beta, tell me what is it?"

Radhika just nodded her head in disagreement

Surender; so you don't want to tell me

Nothing was coming to her throat that she remained silent

Suchi was sitting silently inside the car unable to comprehend anything, it was all sudden decision by Surender, he just came out and said loudly that all are going to chandenpur, first Suchi felt happy but then seeing the reaction of his face and then Radhika's face, she was unable to comprehend anything, she looked at LEchu . Sammy kind of tried to connect the dots, but he remained silent too and took the driver's seat. Radhika looked at Sammy helplessly

Sammy: bhabhi, don't know what happened inside, but I think this is better than keeping everything inside. And Bro needs you now. So

He stopped as he saw Lechu and Suchi coming in'

Surender took the front traveler seat and sat quietly, looking at the passing road.

Sammy: dad, do you want me to call and let them know?

Surender: no Sammy, If Dev is really busy I don't want to disturb his work, I think it is good for Radhika to be in chandenpur, next time if they are coming to spend time in Delhi, I prefer all three to come together, not this split business,

Sammy just looked to the front road, failing to nodd his head in disagrement, keeping his breath in , thinking; OMG, now what did I do? I just asked him one thing, and he is frying me, Vaheguru reksha karna

Surender after a pause continued: for your generation it is all fun, right? Ye, I am taking this step because this is the best, and if it is successful Ithen you are right, or if you face nay diificulty then you get stuck too, then look at us and say you are there for me na. How long you can depend on your elders, when you people will learn to stand on your feet, and for that also you people blame us only saying that we didn't give the support, what is meant by support? Hu? You tell me, don't you know how to get up and move forward, tell me ...

Surender: and if anything goes wrong, how you people react, either broke down he looked at Radhika with a firing eyes.. and then blabb all that illogical things and won't be able to comprehend what you really want to do at that moment. Getting emotional at a crucial point is not helpful at any time for anyone, you should know what you are doing and you should believe in your doings, that is it, otherwise what is the point in taking the responsibilities.

Suchi: aap ye...

Surender looked straight into Suchi's eyes that she kept quiet, she looked at Radhika and was unable to ask her about anything, she held Ruhi in her arms tight.

The car stopped at the Haweli, Yeshpal was sitting at the veranda along with Mohan, dadi , and Rohini

They got surprised seeing Surender and everyone getting out from the car.

Radhika just ran towards her babuji and circled her arms around him and held him tight for support

Mohan: what happened beta

Radhika: I couldn't keep his wish Babuji, I couldn't

Mohan: That's ok, for that why you need to cry, hu? We all here na.

Radhika tried to console self , and slowly moved near to ROhini, Suchi, Lechu walked towards Rohini too. Mohan walked towards surrender with a questionable eye on Sammy.

Suchi: Rohini, is everything ok, what is happening here?

"Dev is finally sleeping, hope he will feel better after this nap". Sushma's voice echoed in that silent moment and she stood froze for seeing everyone around

Suddenly she tried to swallow back on her own words and then tried to bring a forceful smile

Sushma asked in doubt looking at everyone's eyes: aap sab log! Kab aye?

Suchi: what happened to Dev?why he is taking a nap now? Radhika said he is busy with some machine work and all., and????

Sushma: vo, vo and then trying to bring a smile: come inside na, can I get you all water.

Radhika just ran inside as she was unable to hold back her emotions to see him, and Sushma just followed her inside.

Suchi noticed her running inside

Suchi: is Dev ok

She was losing herself for a moment, she gave ruhi in rohini's hand unknowingly. She felt her feet heavy

Suchi: what is happening, why nobody is saying anything, Is Dev ok?

Lechu went near to hold Suchi, she looked at Sammy as Sammy came forward to give his arms of support. Sammy just passed that silent moment

Suchi looked at Surender: what you were talking inside the car, I didn't get any words from it? And you didn't let any of us to talk either, so you know it, tell me, what was it all about

Surender: I don't know anything, but I am sure there is something going on which we are not aware

Suchi looked at Mohan: bhayya, please atleast you tell us what is it? How is Dev? Where is Dev?

Mohan: Dev met with an accident and

Suchi: what?!!!

Sammy felt her weight on his arms and he held her in his strong arms and carried her to the veranda

Time ticked by. and slowly Suchi opened her eyes

She saw rohini's face,: is my son ok?

Her broken words broke the silence around

Rohini just nodded her head , and then helped Suchi to sit comfortably leaning onto her body.

Suchi gaining her strength back: what happened?

Mohan: It happened on that day when he came back from Delhi, after meeting you all.

It was near the canal, he only called us, and when we went there he was laying in blood pool, he was conscious , and I was about to call you but then Dev said you will get worried, so we also thought of getting him immediate medical help and all thru his conscious state he only requested that not to inform you guys as it maybe painful for you take it.

' I know that is not appropriate as I am also a dad, but after the operation and all, we asked him again: but he said he already gave so much pain to you guys, and doesn't went o hurt you any further and was confident that he will heel faster so that he can stand in front of you.

First babuji and I didn't agree with him, but then he said: in a race to show the result to his dad, he didn't take any rest, and was working day and night, his focus was only to show you him successful and show you what he really want to do. Even though it was only few months gap in between, he failed to that visit to you, that contact, and he felt guilty as he met you that day, he realized what he did was wrong, he should have at least send Radhika and Ruhi to you.

Mohan looking at Surender: ha friend, maybe in your eyes he did wrong now by hiding it from you and then sending radhika and ruhi to celebrate. He only tried to bring that smile on your face surrender nothing else, he thought maybe he is also repeating what you did years back, not getting back with your folks, then it will be difficult to cover that distance,...

Touching his shoulder Mohan said: they are learning, and during early periods they tke their steps along with us, and as time pass they take their steps forward and at one point they walk ahead of us, and we tried to pause and look at them moving forward maybe with a smile on our face, or with that hurt seeing the distance they covered in this shorter period from us...

' but I think it is better not to pause , and take that smaller step with them we may not be able to reach nar them but when they turn back they can see that we are right behind them.

Suchi: can I see him

Sushma: he is sleeping now, didn't take any pain medication and it just went intolerable, and was crying silently. I think he is emotionally disurbed than his physical pain. Mohan bhayya called the doctor and he gave that pain med along with little sedation so that he can sleep better. I don't think he maybe waking up soon.

Suchi trying get up: that's ok, I just want to see him

Suchi's feet got uneven again with weakness, Surender held her strong, and he helped her to walk in. Sammy and Lechu was in Dev's room looking at his sleeping posture, while Radhika was getting things arranged inside making room for others to sit. Dev without knowing anything around, was in his deep sleep after few days.

******************************** i am not tring to differencitate black and white shade in each charactors behaviour, when it comes to relation, i think there is a grey shade where we all mingle and move forward, so just giving life to these charactors thru this grey shade. Surender asked blindly to sammy : why they need to depend on elders for everything... and then later mohan telling surender that: we should take that smaller step (totally oppsing surender questions or thoguhts).. it is two state of mind.. surender saying his frustration seeing crying radhka and sensing somehting went wrong and for mohan it is Dev's situation and he is not trying to blame surender, don't take it that way, he is just addressing it generally..

hmm... hope things gets better and better and they re-unite.. I want that earlier atmosphere of lechu and Dev fighting, Suchi and Dev's small teasing talks, Sammy's fear, etc not loving this emotional part at all but I know its a part and parcel of our life and we can't escape it.

agree with ur words written after update.every person is not right always and not wrong always its only character of a human being ,his way of facing situations
here i liked surender 's line 'u get in ur life what u want ' so u are like pampered.
di,i can imagine sammy 's face while surender would be talking like this.bechara ,he didn't do anything ,has no role but get scolding .
don't u hink surender is behaving more frustrated with radhika.what she has done,only following her husband na,she didn't take that step.poor rads now even can't cry.
hope now dev will not say such things to her for telling to his parents.
i liked mohan's talk ,his POV regarding dev.

Thank you for your quick response friends... it is your support giving me the spirit to move on and this is one of the complicated twist that i brought into the story line, as one decision has affected each and every charactor in this story one or the other way. one can take it positively or maybe mov on with that bad taste, but the time is passing and it should move on... right?
