I don't like Ujjaini's singing lately. I remember when she sang gazab ka hai din on May 25th episode. She sang in her own style but was going quite off sur. However, groovy gurus gave her thumbs up for doing that with which I am very surprised. Sorry, I felt like groovy gurus are facing the dilemma of choosing individual style over rendering of the original song's sur.

Obviously, one should perfect the original sur and then lend his/her own style. Otherwise, though I know it's too far-fetched a comparison and very unfair for Ujjaini, even an ordinary avid singer picked randomly could sing in individual style without touching the sur. Lending own style to a song is great but the original song's sur is more important. That song didn't sound pleasant to my ears and quite out of tune from the original. Has anyone also felt this way? She gets into trouble with high notes also most of the time. Her voice is good but seems to stress herself when she is singing.

I agree. I don't understand it when people say that it is better if contestants sing the song in their own unique style, that's not true. I remember even Kumar Sanu said in C2005 that you should not develop your own style, sing it in the same sur as the original song. Ujjaini is slightly overrated in my opinion, I was surprised myself at the positive reaction of GGs with a few unimpressive performances by Ujjaini. It's nothing too big though because she is a good singer, but not vastly superior over the others.

I agree. For one, she struggles at the higher notes and two, her voice is sounding strange nowadays. It isnt the same as it was in C-2005. It sounds tired and strained. I wonder why?
