Truth should be exposed even though it goes against the grain... Whistleblowers are always frowned upon b'coz they dared to rock the boat... If baba is not exposed how many innocent women would fall prey to his advances...Women suffer in silence when they are taken advantage of because even women folk don't stand alongside of them...Bezati of womenfolk continues in society.

I wouldn't have done it either. I have fought injustice in the past, and it plays havoc with one's physical and emotional health. And no one will take Asha's side, random men will think they can do anything. I agree that Asha is doing the morally correct thing by fighting injustice, but in real life, the price to pay is often too high.

hey tanvi you asked an important question😊..
but firstly.. getting molested, being a victim of attempted rape is not a STUPID incident. it is a very serious issue.
life is important yes. family comes first.. but does that mean the victim should take it lying down and stay with a damaged esteem throughout her life?. and may i know her fault. Just being a woman. No i dont think it is right, just or moral..
now question is how many of us would take the same step..
i would NOT want any girl to go through what asha or all the other countless real victims been through. NEVER.
will one take a stand: that depends upon person to person. No blanket rule applies for all. Support system, will power, that need for justice or fear of unknown trouble everything comes into account. when situation turns ugly you can see the best or beast coming out of a person. sometimes the stronger one collapses and weaker one plod on..
so thats that.😊

Dear tinoo,

It is very good thing 2 delve 4 values through spiritual journey.Wish u find answers soonest!

I had gone thru almost every spiritual script n found each a gem we must make it ours..

To most of my personal issues, I found solutions from Gita [ courtesy
http://www.worldteachertrust.org/books_ek_mandra_e.htm#text ]& my inspirational video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsWdpQOnRFY ]

As far as God is concerned,I like Advaitamrita sara of Shankarachaya, which proves logically that God is one & only one irrespective of religion.

Jiddu krishnamurthy,Meher Baba,KATOPANISHAD,19 th Chapter (The works of Apostles) of the new testament (Bible),Guru Nanak's ,Mahavir jain's,Prophet Mohaamed's teachings,Buddha's noble eight fold path,Ramakrishna ParamHamsa's parables, are some to quote those help us in every walk of our life.

As far as the question of importance for society (shreya) or individual interest (Preya) is concerned, Katopanishad says that it is always the path of shreya that is safe to follow where in, we can have a stable happiness as long as we try to get it through serving the society with love rather than trying to grab it for individual / selfish reasons.

Hence Asha must take an action against dhongi baba in a systematic manner..as her happiness is linked up with the success of her action against such social parasites, also as long as she fight for the society, society shall come 2 her rescue as he is a small group when compared to the society. As far as the whistle blowing is concerned we are not in those old days of "The Insider".These days, media (The fourth Estate) is all powerful now that every galat admi can b barred in no time irrespective of his cadre/creed.

I have gone through this in my mind over and over again, and come to the conclusion that I would not prosecute sadhu if i were in asha's place.

My decision would be based on :-

1) I dont have to see sadhu ever again

2) I made the mistake of going into sadhu's room, which will be misconstrued if this goes to court and goes public -- thereby tarnishing my own career.

3) My future will be at stake -- In Jayetsar, I will always be known as a woman of questionable morals. This cannot bode well.

4) Finally, I will be creating problems for my family. I am not contributing anything to the family anyway, so i do not want to create extra problems for madan singh and radha.

It would have been one thing if asha had been in her haveli and someone had broken into madan singh's house and attempted to rape/molest her ... but here she went into sadhu's room in the ashram.

Finally, I would really not give a damn about other women in society (this is selfish i know) byprosecuting sadhu -- but I just want to focus on myself and my betterment. (sort of anandi style ... it is done, move on).

Does this make me a coward? I dont know. But its what I would do.

All views welcome. Thanks.

I am jist expressing my view ...i have nothing in personal to go against u...
I can only say one thing by seeing ur post... now i realize y india is still struggling...n always be a country that is
developing rather developed ...people like u are exists in every whr...if everybody thinks abt their self then wats a big deal... if u hurt by ur family or someone ...u may ignore as u like...but a person who is ruining somany lives with false fame how can we allow them to do anything ...i know saying is easy but doing is difficult ...but still u can do this as long as u have support of ur beloved ones

Tinno very good topic and I do respect your views but I do have to add...

If everyone thought of their gain only, India and for that fact many countries would still be ruled by British...no Independence or the actual FREEDOM would have been achieved by any! And if we were still ruled by them, you or me wouldn't even have the right to express our views..forget about following it.

If no one stood up for injustice that happened to them, we wont have LAWS...! We wont have education...as its sole purpose it to inform people of right and wrong. If self gain was all that everyone thought there wouldn't be a society, unity..!

Forget about these issues, if Asha doesn't stand up and fight, you think the dhongi baba is going to spare her? You think other men wont follow on his footstep and try and take advantage openly of more widow and women? Because they wont have any fear of them standing up or getting caught! So should Asha think of her short term personal gain and endanger herself and live in fear of other men finding a chance to rape her? If she stands up, sure she will face problem, but if we were to always turn our faces in front of difficulties how would we progress ahead? How would she progress ahead? You think NOW if she doesnt go against this baba that her family will see her the same way they did earlier? There are many many women who due to fear do not speak up, but these women are NEVER happy as they live a life of guilt and regret and kuch kar ne marna is better than kuch na karke marna!

And as you talked about Whistle blowers, well that was 1970s...have you also seen Erin Brockovich, real story that became a movie in 2000? Time has changed, society has changed, people want to know if they are served wrong, they want to know whats been kept away from them. And they will fight, lots of real cases throughout history and more than ever people understand the need to fight and stand up. India too is moving ahead, fighting for wrong and I hope there comes a time where no women is scared to stand up for the wrong thats done to her.

Its been really long since I last posted anything here, have stopped watching the show but my glance fell on this topic by Tinoo. Firstly, your posts alwayz raise important and thought provoking discussions, I applaud you for that. I understand that via this topic you might not reflect what u truely feel but what is a general dilemma we all face when we are put at a spot.

Here's my two cents, there is a need and a civic duty to report not only all these crimes but any unjust, else we cease to evolve as a society, all our claims of knowledge, empowerment and education stand at naught.Hence, the step by Asha and Anandi to complain is absolutely relevant and the right choice.

Now the individual good here refers to Asha, firstly making it clear that , it is and should always be her story and her fight not Anandi's, she needs to fight this battle to find a personal closure, if she had shunned the whole incident under a carpet, then she would be forever lost in the darkness, too scared and every moment haunted by the visions of this horrific incident. More than anyone or even the society, this battle is for her, it is to empower her for herself, it might open doors to a world she never saw, she needs to learn that noone has a right to violate her. She doesnt know how to live, this is her chance.Fortunately, she has a great backup, no matter what happens, they are going to stand by her financially and emotionally, but there are many in her shoes who doesnt have this aid, they languish in fear and spend their whole lyf with this burden.

Now Anandi, well it's not her battle and i pray Cv's dont make it one, let shyam and sugna be more supportive, Anandi herself could have send the strongest message to the society against bal vivaah by throwing jaggu to jail or better moving out of the haveli and carving her own individual identity, hence I resist her sermons to Asha, the only person who should be doing it , is Shyam.

Though i agree with the battle against baba, but its the means and the way it might be achieved ,where lies my doubts, even with that eve-tease incident, though most of us loved the slap that Anandi gave, but did we realize that under normal conditions those hooligans could come back and could have down awful things to the girl or even Anandi. It was ill-thought, she should have introduced pepper spay or some defence class for girls etc. Similarly, this dhogi baba case should not be reduced as a joke , cvs should tread carefully, letting law and more importantly bringing Asha to forefront.

I saw many people citing freedom fighters and even Gandhiji, here, as much as I appreciate the sentiments, I do think they were different scenerios , there are millions of Ashas everywhere in the world or rather even the guys who dont go to court, some to avoid long legal hassle, financial constraints, out-of-court settlements and just plain fear, so we cannot be judgemental and sneer down upon those who take the easy way, rather we should work to support them in whatever way they choose, victim's rehabilitation should be the prime concern.

To sign off, Tinoo , I remember, you made a post about forgiveness or holding a grudge, it was a subjective question based on how a person is ready to emotionally close the event and move on, hence mostly in these cases it is essential to reach that closure for everyone's benefit, more so for Asha herself.

Once again, your honest post drew me out, it is sincere, there are those who cheat in exams , well nobody goes around telling them that Gandhiji never did it, so y you, they make their own choices for right or wrong, irrespective of social implications. But we need more Ashas' today to come out share their stories and fight their battles, not only for themselves but to be a role model to hundreds who refuse to seek help. The system and the society need to step around and encourage them, else we can never be better than those cavemen.
