Of the remaining contestants, I really like Sharib, Aishwarya, Ujjaini....(Note the stress on the individual rather than the jodi)

Now yesterday (Friday 26th May) , I dont know what went wrong. Almost all the singers were going terribly off-key.

Ujjaini was singing in that weird voice of hers - it kept wavering - maybe its some new style which people find hot, but I dont like it. I used to like her voice in C-2005. Remember her rendition of that Aitraaz song - (Make love to me....) - she was scintillating then. Dunno whats gone wrong. I suspect she is using a ploy to hide her lack of range in the upper notes.

Banjo went terribly off-key in both the songs. I found Banjo to be improving in the past few weeks, but yesterday, she was just too bad. There was no two opinions about it. She was so so off-key.

Sanchali was okay, but did lose her sur once at the higher note. The beautiful song - Vaada kar le saajana - she compromised on the higher note and spoilt the song.

Sharib usually never loses his sur, but in yesterday's performance he did miss out on one-two occasions.

The only ones who I found to be good in maintaining sur were Aishwarya (who I have started liking of late) and surprise surprise - Rajeev! I usually dont like Rajeev because of his pathetic performances, but yesterday, I was quite impressed by his command on sur even at the higher notes. That is why I was a bit taken aback when GG's chided him for losing sur. I thought he was perfect.

Anyway, the point here is that too much importance is being given to the dance steps, the chemistry blah blah. But having learnt classical music in my childhood, I find it difficult to accept a performance where the sur is lost. I can accept anything else - lack of dance, lack of chemistry, lack of energy - but I cannot accept lack of sur.

Sorry, I cannot be tone-deaf!!!

Hi Arun
Absolutely agree with you about not being able to compromise with lack of sur. That's why MY gharana's slogan is

SUR SANGRAAM BESURON SAAVDHAAN!!!!! 😊
