Goan Welfare Association hosts ball in Qatar

Panaji, May 24: A Goan girl, Ms Stacy D'Mello was crowned queen at the May Queen Ball, hosted by the Goan Welfare Association, held recently at Diplomatic Club in Doha, Qatar.
The event was inaugurated by the president of Goan Welfare Association, Mr Simon D'Silva, after a grand march-past. Mr Luizinho Faleiro, the Industries and Education Minister of Goa was the Chief guest on the occasion. Mr Faleiro was accompanied by his wife Ms Rachel Faleiro and daughter Ms Rania Faleiro.
Several Bollywood celebrities including Rajeev Khandelwal and Preeti Jhangiani along with Indian ambassador to Qatar, Mr Glen Barretto, Dr George Joseph, Mr Carmo Santos, president of the Goan Welfare Society, Kuwait, also attended the event.
Over thousand people mostly Goans attended the show at which Lynx, a band from Goa, was in attendance. Actor Rajeev Khandelwal sang a song from his television serial 'Kahin To Hoga.' Both Rajeev and Preeti danced among the crowd.
The ball's highlight was the crowning of Ms Stacy D'Mello as the May Queen from among 32 contestants in the race. The first and second runners-up were Ms Nishita Irani and Ms Amanda respectively.
Most contestants were Goans while the others from Mumbai, Pune, Nepal, Kuwait and Philippines also participated. A CD of the music compiled by the band Lynx was also released by Ms Rachel Faleiro. The proceeds of the event would go to the aid of girl child orphans in Goa.
