Kavyanjali started as an intense love story between Kavya and Anjali but a year later, Kavya is dead and Shaurya is all set to take his place. Kavyanjali started as an intense love story between Kavya and Anjali but a year later, Kavya is dead and Shaurya is all set to take his place. Will Anjali marry Shaurya? "Right now, Anjali is totally confused but eventually I guess, she will," says Anita nee Natassha who plays Anjali. And what if Kavya comes back from the dead? Only 'Balaji' knows... With her better half, Kavya, having gone out of her life and the serial, Anjali was looking a little lost. Also, Nitya played by Amrita Singh, had run out of her bag of tricks to destory Anjali. Since Kavya's death, her demeanour has changed. The menace is missing and so is its grip. In order to create a spark, the producers have brought in a new vamp and villain in the form of Navneet Nishan and Rajev Paul respectively. Navneet plays Nirmala, Nitya's elder sister who has been cheated out of her share of the property by Bauji because she was married to the adopted son. "It is revealed later that my husband is not the biological son and he leaves the house in a huff. After his death, Nirmala wants to take revenge on Bauji and comes back to wrest her share of property," informs the actress. Nirmala and her brother-in-law Navin have already sown the seeds of distrust and suspicion by wrongly accusing Anjali of having an affair with Shaurya. Though aghast, Bauji magnaniously announces that he will get Anjali married to Shaurya. Shaurya is being played by Iqbal Khan. So, will Shaurya tie the knot with Anjali? we ask Iqbal"Right now he is just friendly to Anjali with whom he shares a platonic love. Let's see what happens," shrugs Iqbal.
This is the good-looking actor's second serial. He had made his television debut with a Balaji daily soap Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai a year ago. Before that he had done two films Fun2ssh and Bullet which failed miserably at the box-office and his career as a hero was over. He's however found his calling on television. Where he is rocking in the role of Angad Bedi, a flamboyant rockstar. The role has fetched him immense popularity and adulation particulary from his female fans. Not surprisingly, Angad is close to his heart. "I am very sentimental about him," reveals Iqbal. he, however, hastens to add that Angad is not like him at all. "Angad is a rogue, flamboyant and flashy, whereas I am a normal boring guy," reveals the actor. As for Shaurya, Iqbal has just started getting into the groove of the character...
The actor is getting offers from other production houses too, but Iqbal just doesn't have the time for it. "Everybody knows that when you are already doing a Balaji daily soap, it is impossible to find time for anything else," he says good-humouredly. What about films? Has he bid goodbye to the big screen? "I will consider it, if I get a good role, but no matter what, I will never leave television," he asserts.
On the other hand, Navneet Nishan who made a comeback to television after almost five years with Balaji's Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka is planning to make the most of her current phase. "It's nice to know that people still love you and accept you," she says warmly. About her role in Kavyanjali, Navneet says that the two things that attracted her to Nirmala was for the first time she was getting an opportunity to drape herself in traditional outfits and two, the character was interesting. "A powerful role, it has been presented beautifully," says Navneet who is shown to be a paan-chewing, mean and manipulative woman, second only to Nitya. Navneet who shares a great rapport with Amrita, her friend for more than two decades, is excited about working with her. "The first day of the shoot required me to walk to Amrita and say 'Bahut saalon baad milein ...' and before I could complete my dialogue she burst out laughing loudly," recalls Navneet. "She said she couldn't keep a straight face when I was mouthing a bitchy dialogue," laughs Navneet adding, "As my mom says, you get to spend a day with your friend and you get paid for it. What more do you need?" What indeed! However, initially, Navneet had bargained to work only for fifteen days a month when she signed Kya Hoga... "But the role in Kavyanjali was too tempting and now I am in the grind, working two, sometimes even three shifts," she grins sheepishly. In Kya Hoga... Navneet plays a chatur chachi, a clever bahu of Dolly Thakore whose only aim is buttering up her daadi for property and generally creating confusion. Though she loves her role in Kya Hoga... it is as Nirmala that she gets "job satisfaction". The actress has bagged two film roles, Salaam-E-Ishq which has her playing a dominating friend of Juhi Chawla who is married to Anil Kapoor. In Good Boy Bad Boy she is doing a cameo as Tushar's mother. Navneet is enjoying her present innings but she does miss the directors of the bygone era "who are unable to sustain in today's world of television." The Tara of yesteryear is hoping that Raman Kumar revives the path-breaking serial. For Rajev Paul, this serial is like a homecoming to Balaji. He played the first negative role of his career in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kavyanjali is his second outing with the production house. "I am glad and fortunate that whenever there's been a strong anti-hero to be played, Ekta's thought of me," he says gratefully. He plays Navin Nanda who comes back from America to find that Anjali has taken the reins of business and his Bauji has decided to give his property to Nirmala. To safeguard his share, he joins hands with Nirmala and together they decide to wrest the power from Anjali. "I appear negative to the family and the viewer but I am not negative for the sake of it. As a matter of fact, I am a strong and dominating personality who is doing things to protect himself," justifies Rajev. It is Vanshita (Kishwar) who eggs him into believing the worse about Anjali. Rajev has a distinctive look in the serial boasting of black suits and brown lenses. "There's a lot of detailing to the character and I love it," he says flashing his dimples. The other serial Rajev's doing these days is Twinkle Beauty Parlour where he plays one of the protagonist's husbands. "You can say I am the only male protagonist in the serial," he grins. Right now, his track as Ashish has him married to Smita Bansal's character. "There will be a lot more things happening to the character, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it up," he says mysteriously. Rajev is also working on a reality-based show, the details of which he is unwilling to divulge at this point. "I will let you know once the channel and the production house gives the go-ahead," he says. As for Anjali, the source of all positive and negative elements around her, Anita says it's a role she enjoys. "It's a good role and comes at primetime. I am satisfied," she contends. What's more, adds Anita, "Anjali's life has various twists. She has been positive as well as negative and the drama is intense," she reasons. The serial happened to her at a time when she was experiencing a low in her career. "Krishna Cottage hadn't done well and I was sitting at home twiddling my thumbs. It was very depressing. I decided it was better to do television rather than wait for films. Now I am very happy because I have this serial as well as a few South Indian films," she says candidly. Her Kannada film Kumar Rama opposite Shivrajkumar is due for release in August. Whom does Anjali prefer, Kavya or Shaurya? After thinking for a minute, she says it's Kavya. In fact, with Kavya, she won this year's Best Jodi award. "Awards give you a high. They excite and help you," she gushes. As for Kavyanjali, it remains to be seen whether the new brigade of actors will take this STAR Plus' show to a new high.
