Half hour of television programming was a suspense to all the characters in the show, except for two: Rohini and Sonakshi, who were the perpetrators of the charade. The viewers had been told of their plan before, and this could have triggered a mass exodus right at the beginning, or during the show. As for me, it was a matter of commitment, and a test of patience.
The dining table for the night meal is set, and all are very tense, as Sonakshi has decided to leave the house. Rohini is fishing in troubled waters. Daksh is silent and grave, with a bandaged wrist resting on the table. A Naina, is anxious, and left out of the charade, guessing the moves of her arch rival, Sonakshi, as she has already come to the conclusion that she is up to playing games. She has not been able to convince Daksh, and as a result, the lawyer, inspite of his clever mind is befudled, and groping for answers. Kaka, snubs Rohini, when she attacks Naina, for no reason. He asks her, what is wrong with her, that she behaves like this. He orders her to leave his P.G. out of her games. He at the moment, is the only street-smart person in the room. The rest are ingrained believers in the goodness of the human spirit, where no one can sin, and the one they have ear-marked for their son, is above reproach. It is a very queer sight, to see these people wincing their faces with sadness, at the enactment of the departing daughter in law. If the viewers remember, the same charade was played by the elder daughter in law, when she was pregnant, and defied her mother in law, and wanted to leave the house. It was a sad spectacle to see the mother in law, pleading with this petty girl, to stay back, so that she will not be deprived of an heir to the ancestral largesse, which was awaiting this newcomer. She has manipulated her without her knowing ever since, by making her dance to the tune of her electric bell. She was warned by her sister, Minoo, but the younger sister of Minoo does not seem to grow mentally, and now this is the second test, in which, the viewers of the Show have given her a failing grade. The wise history teacher too, is embarrassingly ignorant of the human mind, and falls for her antics. In spite of the pleadings of the mother, the son Daksh does not say a word, and when the girl, reaches the door, he orders her to stay back. The Kaka has something unusual to say at this time. Perhaps some of the viewers who saw and heard him, could write in the comment, what exactly he said. He spoke of an empty room, and how when one moos, in one direction, the other does it, in the other. What exactly he said, I could not follow, but it has a bearing on what followed. He is annoyed with the fuss, his family is making, and orders his wife and children, to go back to the table and finish their meal.
Daksh and Sonakshi go up to the room, and Daksh is trying to get the truth out of Sonakshi. She gives him a counter argument, and says, that she takes an oath, that whatever had happened, should not have happened, and Daksh is left guessing. In fact, nothing had happened, and her oath said, it should not have happened at all, so she did not take a false oath, but the stupid lawyer has a muzzled brain, trying to figure out. He finally says, he will find a way out and sits on the bed, and the girl, walks out, closing the door behind.
Downstairs, there is more drama, for the insiders, and no answer, and finally Sonakshi tells them, that she will stay back for some more time. Naina, says she wants to go up and see Daksh, and Rohini pounces and tells that what job is it of hers to meet him. If any one should meet, it is the mother. The father does not like Rohini treating Naina this way, and he tells her so, but the long faced wife of his, tells him, that what Rohini says, is right, and so goes to see her son, and to find out what transpired.
In all this Naina is shown to be anxious, and unable to get her Daksh to extricate himself from the clutches of Sonakshi.
In the Pre-Cap: Sonakshi spurns Naina, and tells her what would she expect two people behind locked doors, in the bedroom ? Naina has a premonition of something evil to befall this family. The family itself is blissfully unaware of the oncoming tsunami.
