A new WikiLeaks cable dealing with the issue of Hollywood-Bollywood partnership has unfolded the role of bribery in shooting a film in India.

Several Hollywood film studios are getting interested in Indian film market due to its large base and high production qualities. Sony, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney and Twentieth Century Fox have already entered into the world's second largest film market and other foreign studios are also planning the same.

However, the business has not been very successful till now. One of the prime reasons behind this situation is the ambiguity about the role of foreign studios in Bollywood. Their Indian counterparts are still viewing them as an investment agency rather than paving way for their active participation.

Major Indian filmmakers also opine their views about Hollywood-Bollywood partnership in this cable.

Further, the WikiLeaks cable quotes interlocutors who are working in thrust areas for a winning Hollywood-Bollywood partnership, noting that other less risky and profitable opportunities for Hollywood-Bollywood partnerships include shooting and editing movies in India to reduce production costs.

However, the numerous clearances (and bribes) needed for shooting a scene in India makes even Indian producers reluctant to shoot in the country. Many of the key outdoor scenes in Bollywood movies are shot overseas, in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and the U.S.

The cable elaborates that editing techniques are cheaper in India, and editing professionals are as good as Hollywood, still Hollywood directors are reluctant in sending their footages to India for the fear of losing control on the editing process.
