...all you who found tonight's episode a crap-fest. *promptly raises own hand*
Disclaimer: Vindictive mood, more than slightly strong comments. ☢️
I guess it was too much asking for 2 awesome episodes in a row. From the very beginning itself, I was yawning & wondering when I'll be blown away. *& it was a long long long wait that seemed never-ending* So much so that writing how I felt about it is a tedious task in itself. *but I'm going to admit this, the bottom 3 outdanced the top 4. Who'd have thunk huh?*
Well, here goes nothing. *for the most part, literally; yawns some more* 🥱
Ankan & Karan Khanna: I did not get this whole Jadoo sequence. At all. Watching their performance on repeat to search for that one redeeming quality maybe showed some parts that I liked & brought forth the realisation that perhaps the dance was remarkable on a technical level. But honestly, I just didn't feel all that excited about it. =/
& of course things just had to be made worse with the comments. I didn't see one being better than the other, but history repeated itself again with "Ankan, this is your forte, you're so good in it, no one can even touch it, you're that awesome" only to be followed by "but Karan yaar, you were totally something else today! My eyes were only on you!" Might as well have told Ankan he's chopped liver.
I'm never going to like their method of commenting, it's just insane.
Rajit: Out with jaundice, pity! *or saved himself from embarrassment, depends on how you look at it*
Swarali & Surjeet: Ho hum dee dum, anyone? I'm no expert on jives but I've seen enough to know their attempt was only fairly decent at best with an atrocious beginning complete with threadbare coordination. To their credit, they did pick up the energy halfway through & saved themselves, the 2nd half being much much better in every aspect.
But again, the comments made me want to gouge my eyes out. "You guys gave such a CUTE performance". At least Farah had some sense to say they forgot their steps.
Still, is this a competitive dance competition, people? If not, somebody show me the door to the real JD please. 😳
Performer of the Week: Very happy for Karan but there wasn't much competition to begin with. It's almost sad. Almost.
Soumita: I can't believe I'm saying this but this was the dance of substance I had been waiting for. It was beautiful, her expressions were to die for, she literally sizzles when dancing kathak.
What about the other dance styles though? The million dollar question is, does she have it in her to become the Ultimate Dancer?
Methinks not. Out with her already!
Abhash: *speechless* Spine-tinglingly scary, soul-searching type of performance. It was a remarkable piece of contemporary & I applaud him for that.
On a sidenote, I'm willing to place my money on him now. At least, he's trying to be versatile & doing a pretty good job at it.
*However, I'd probably not go so far as to say no one in the world's ever cartwheeled on their heads because you see break dancers spinning on them all the time. Just saying.*
*OOH, OOH, IT'S ALI ZAFAR!! O_O*
Meher: *whistles* This performance was so pleasing to the eye & her belly shakes were much more subtle & contained. Loved the whole concept & execution, very very graceful.
& it's probably my favourite performance of her to date, if not the best performance of the night. Qayamat indeed.
*What would this night be if I didn't comment on the over-the-top comments? When Farah said it's probably the first time someone had ever thought & done this combination, I was staring at the screen in disbelief. I for one have seen belly-dance fused with odissi before & the person who did it was none other than Meher's student Nitisha who also came for JD auditions, so Farah either forgot or lied; I still found it distasteful that no one commented on this; at least Meher should have remembered!! But she just kept smiling. An utter What-The-Heck moment.*
As for the judges' final decision, I'll just let this one slip by. The whole night was filled with near-blunders, why comment on only one? I agree, Abhash-Meher-Soumita were phenomenal, but on the long run I don't think this was the right decision.
So, my opinion? Watch this episode if you want to:
- Watch the bottom 3 put the top 4 to shame.
- Get a belly-ache with Ayushmann's antics of winning Katrina Kaif over with a rolling pin.
- See Ali Zafar & Imraan Khan.
- Watch the judges & guests shake their legs.
🤪
Have fun then!
P.S. Please comment whether you agree or disagree. :)
