Karunya touching with his magical voice

You have a very good voice. Did you always want to be a singer?

I've been singing since the age of three and I had always wanted to sing. My parents noticed the singer in me and have guided and supported me ever since to fulfill my ambition. They have always stood by me. I aspire to be a great singer some day.

Tell us something about yourself and your family?

I'm based in Hyderabad and I'm doing in B-Tech (Third Year) in Electronics & Communications. My family comprises my father, mother and younger sister.

Who has been your inspiration in singing?

Kishore Kumar has been my inspiration. Other than him my favourite Indian singers are Asha Bhonsle, Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, P Sushila and Ghantasaala.

Which is your favourite performance in Indian Idol?

The song 'Kawa kawa' from Monsoon Wedding.

How has life been after Indian Idol?

Things have proved to be very encouraging and affirmative following the contest and I've started seeing life very optimistically after that. I have become very popular today and this has opened the doors of opportunities my way to help me become a better singer. I'm equally geared about my engineering degree and will complete it anyways.

How did you bag the Bollywood playback-singing offer from Vidhu Vinod Chopra for his sequel to Munnabhai MBBS?

After the Indian Idol 2 result was declared, his sister was very upset and she was crying. She was upset because I had not become the Indian Idol. She told him Vidhu Vinod Chopra about me and he approached me to do playback for his film.

Other than this offer has any other offer come your way?

Right now I can just say that my hands are full, but things are at a very early stage to be mentioned. Other than Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film, which will be my first release, I'm tied down with many recordings for south Indian films.
