It has got something to do with the money inherited by Kiran. She was estranged from the family but when he father/ mother was dying they wanted to leave her everything but Roshni played foul and denied her her legacy. Jai was also somehow involved.

So Bani's family could have have had all luxuries but had to stay in poverty in Mount Abu...
