Chapter 84
Geet, come with me.
Maan, where are you taking me?
Someplace where we can be alone.
You always want to be alone.
Come on, Geet. You can't tell me that you don't sometimes wish that we could just get away somewhere. Somewhere it's just the two of us.
Maybe.
Then trust me and come along.
Geet took Maan's hand and followed him down the wooded path. Soon they emerged into a small field of wildflowers. A small cottage was in the middle, surrounded by a dozen blooming rose bushes. As they walked down the stony path, Geet noticed a patch of strawberries off to one side.
Maan, look over there. Do you remember how you fed me strawberries when we were at Disney world?
Of course I remember and I also remember what happened after.
Maan, do you ever think about anything except making love?
When I have such a beautiful, sexy wife? No.
Looking around the inside of the cottage, with all the romantic decorations and the large poster bed, Geet had a suspicion of Maan's intentions. Seeing the look in his face confirmed it. Falling onto the bed, they both began to kiss each other with abandon. Clothes came off quickly and were scattered everywhere.
Maan, I love you so much!
I can't say that I was ever interested in hearing that come from your lips, sister dear, but I would at least appreciate being called by the correct name.
Geet opened her eyes and to her shock it was Brij who hovered over her.
Maan!
Maan, Maan. Don't you ever say anything else?
Let go! Get off of me!
I don't think so. I've been waiting years to finish what I started. You can't get away from me this time.
No! Let me go! Help! Maan! Maan!

"Maan!" cried Geet as she bolted upright in their bed.
"What is it, Geet?" asked Maan sleepily.
Remembering the horrible nightmare, Geet burst into noisy tears. Maan was immediately alarmed, asking her what happened even as he pulled her into his strong embrace. Geet clung to him tightly, unable to stop the large sobs that continued, despite her gradual realization that the frightening experience was only a dream.
"Mishti," murmured Maan softly, rubbing her back soothingly. "It's not good for you to cry so much. Talk to me. Tell me what happened. Did you have a bad dream?"
Geet nodded, but continued to cry. Maan continued talking to her quietly, trying to help her calm down. Eventually Geet was able to narrate her dream between sobs. She told how they had been walking in the field, and about the cottage with its bed and romantic decorations.
"Well, that doesn't sound too bad."
"No, that part was nice, but then...then..."
"Go on, Geet," encouraged Maan, when she paused.
"We were on the bed, kissing and then suddenly you weren't you anymore. You...I mean one moment it was you and then the next moment Brij was there. He said...and then he tried to...It was so awful and I called and called for you, but he just laughed. He said I wouldn't be able to get away from him this time. It was so awful! It felt like it was really happening."
Geet buried her head in Maan's chest, totally over come with sobs. Maan held her close, comforting her as best he could. He felt his own anger rising at the trauma that Geet still had to go through due to her own family. He stilled tried to stay calm, not wanting her to get any impression that she should feel ashamed for what had happened.
"Maan," came Geet's trembling voice. "Make love to me, please! Make me forget everything except being in your arms."
Maan never would have initiated anything intimate on his own, not in this kind of situation. But there was no possible way he could deny Geet's request, not when she clung to him as if her life depended on him alone. Very gently he kissed away her tears, keeping the kisses light and brief. When he felt her begin to respond, only then did he increase his intensity, showing through his actions just how much he loved her.
For Geet, their lovemaking was no less. The thought of anyone other than the man she loved with all her heart touching her was totally abhorrent. She wanted to be Maan's and only Maan's, forever.

Maan watched as Geet laid out the pooja thalis and began to arrange the items and decorate them. He kept expecting either Naintara or Dadi to come and give her some help, but they never did. He didn't like that they were letting her do the work alone, especially when he saw Geet move her hand to her mouth to cover a large yawn.
"Geet, where is Naintara? Why isn't she helping you?"
Geet looked over her shoulder and saw the frown on Maan's face. "Maan, Di is busy getting Meenal ready. It's not easy dealing with a one year old, you know. I don't see why you are looking so upset."
"Geet, you shouldn't be doing everything on your own. Ever since Guptie went back home and you took over the running of the house again, I think it's been too much for you. You never seem to have as much energy as you used to."
"Oh, Maan, stop being such a worry wart. I admit I've been feeling a little tired lately, but give me a break. We were just married, then we went on two different trips, and once we got back things went crazy at the office. And if I seem tired during the day, whose fault is that? Who is it, who likes to keep me up half the night, hmmm?"
Maan blushed a little uncomfortably at her teasing tone. It was true that he never seemed to be able to get enough of her and they often spent half the night making love. Maybe he had been too enthusiastic in his attentions toward her, but it wasn't as if he made love alone. She was always an eager participant in their passion, and a frequent initiator as well. Even so, he still thought she wasn't looking quite like herself, and with the nightmare she had the previous night, his husbandly instincts were going into protective mode.
Walking up next to his wife, he asked seriously, "Geet, are you sure you're alright?"
Seeing the concern on his face, and the way he looked at her, Geet knew exactly why he was asking. Putting her hand on his arm, she replied, "Yes, Maan, I'm fine. Do you know, that I am so happy with you that most of the time I forget that I ever had any difficulties in life? But there's no getting away from the truth that my past wasn't happy at all. It's not surprising that I would have a bad dream now and again, but that doesn't worry me. I know that as long as you are with me, that you love me, I can get through anything, even memories of my past."
"You seem to have a lot of trust in me, Mrs. Khurana."
"Of course. I trust you more than anyone on this earth, more than myself."
They both smiled tenderly at each other, Maan's worries gone seeing the radiance on her face as she looked at him. He couldn't stop himself from pulling her in for a kiss. It was meant to be quick, but once their lips touched, they couldn't let go of each other. They only broke apart when they heard a soft clearing of the throat somewhere behind them.
"Maan, Geet, please try to control yourselves for just a few minutes. We are all ready and waiting," said Dadi, laughing at her pota and bahu's embarrassment in being caught.

The day was both a happy day, and a sad day. They were all sad, because the time had finally come for Naintara, Harsh and Meenal to return home to India. They had a flight schedule to leave that evening, and they couldn't miss it if they wanted to be back in time to celebrate Independence Day. Yet, they still had a very happy occasion to celebrate before they leave.
It was time to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, and the two boys were especially excited. The year previous Meenal had been less than a month old, not allowing for much in the way of celebration. The family had also been apart, unlike now, minus Dev's presence. Geet had already sent him a Rakhi and he had gifted her a nice necklace set.
As Meenal was still to young to do anything on her own, Geet held the pooja thali and Naintara held Meenal. Each of the little boys had a tilak placed on their forehead by Geet, and then Naintara held Meenal's hand lightly on the edge of the thali as Geet did their arti. This was followed by a tied of the Rakhis and a feeding of sweets, which Meenal did with a lot of help from her mother and aunt.
The boys also very carefully fed their sister small bites of the sweets before giving their gifts. Harsh gave Meenal a set of picture books, which he promised to read to her everyday. JD wanted to make sure that Meenal would remember him when they left. That was why he gave her a digital picture frame filled with all the pictures they had acquired over the summer.
Naintara also tied Rakhi to Maan for the first time. Dadi held Meenal, who thought her necklace was the best toy ever, while her mother did Maan's arti. The boys stuffed themselves with sweets, Geet trying to limit what they had, while Maan gave Naintara her present.
"Veerji!" she exclaimed, as she looked at the expensive diamond bracelet that he had given her.
"When Geet told me your reaction to the Tiffany bracelet I got her, I thought you might like one also. There's also some money to cover the duty tax when you go back to India."
"Some money!" she cried, seeing the wad of hundred dollar bills that was in the bottom of the gift box.
"Okay, so maybe it's a little more than you need to cover the bracelet. Just use the rest to go shopping, or whatever."
"Veerji, you really are the best," said Naintara as she gave Maan a hug, the rest of the family smiling in happiness at the bond between Jeth and Bhabhi.
