Today, the whole nation is celebrating Janmashtami. In Mumbai, the dahi handi celebrations are a major attraction in every nook and corner. Our STAR One actors too enjoy the festival with zest and fervor. We catch up with them to talk about their plans for Janmashtami and the significance of the celebration for them.

Piya from Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani

My plan for Janmashtami is eating all the goodies my mom makes. Actually, last night, just before twelve, when I was crossing Four Bungalows, I spotted a shop that sells clothes for Lord Krishna. I got off immediately to buy clothes and jewellery for Krishna. I even bought a sweet and cute swing. My memories of the festival are of my mother making burfi, puris and halwa for everyone at home. Janmashtami used to be an amazing, very festive, and fun-filled day. Mom used to bathe the Krishna idol and put him on a large doli at home. We would exchange prasad with our neighbours.

On my way back from Aamby valley, I saw some dahi handi celebrations, which looked like a whole load of fun. As it is my mom's birthday today, we will cut a cake and celebrate two occasions. In my childhood, we would have small palkhis of Lord Krishna, and I used to be very excited about decorating the palkhi. Janamashtami has a special place in our culture, and it give us a reason to smile.

Jeh from Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani

Last year, my friends and I had gone to town for a drive, and we saw a huge dahi handi celebration happening post mid-night. I am shooting today, but will try to go to the same venue tonight and catch the dahi handi celebrations in town. I remember Janamashtami used to be a big deal for me as a kid. Everyone would fast at home, and mom would make yummy fala-aahar, which would be fried items or sweets. I used to wait for the procession of Lord Krishna to come to my hometown Mansor, Madhya Pradesh. Then, we would listen to bhajans and fast the whole day. However, in the past few years, I have been unable to fast.
