She approached the doors and she slowly opened the door. Geet took one step out of the house, but she could not resist turning around one last time to hear or see her Maan calling her back to him.
Geet only needed one simple sentence from the man she loved so dearly, " Don't leave me Geet..."
Tears rolled down her eyes as she turned herself around and took another step out of the outhouse. She was leaving her maayka... she was leaving her sasural... She was leaving her Maan.
His memory loss made her weak... every hope... every prayer was gashed by his harsh words to her. But she knew that Maan had a temper and when he was angry, he paid no heed to anyone.
She shut the door behind her and took a deep breath. She continued to walk out of the Khurana property, until she heard.
" Geet didi!" called a familiar voice.
Geet stopped and turned around quickly in hope that someone was calling Geet because Maan wanted her back in the house...he remembered his Geet finally.
Nandini came running towards Geet and she said, " Geet didi... where are you going so late at night?" Geet wiped her tears, " Far away from him..."
Nandini hugged Geet tightly and she said, " I will go with you too Geet didi..." Geet hugged her tightly, " No... you and Lucky veerji will stay in the Khurana mansion."
The girls broke out of their hug and Nandini wiped Geet's tears, " Wherever my older sister goes... I go too" Geet looked at the suitcase that was beside Nandini and she frowned, " No Nandini..."
" No ifs no buts Geet didi... I'm coming and thats it!" replied Nandini stubbornly. Geet was too tired to argue with her and she nodded. The two girls looked at the Khurana mansion again. " Its a new beginning Geet didi..." whispered Nandini.
Geet nodded and they walked out of the Khurana mansion, until Geet receieved a phone call on her cellphone. Geet picked up her phone, " Hello?"
" Geet bete!" said Dadimaa.
"Ji dadimaa" replied Geet. " Geet where do you think you're going?" asked dadimaa. " Dadimaa please, don't stop me" replied Geet. " Geet bete, don't give up on Maan... he needs you... he needs your memories and love"
Geet sighed, " I haven't given up on him, but if this is what takes for him to remember me, then so be it"
Dadimaa paused for a second and then added, " Okay bete, whatever you think is right, but keep in contact with me and where will you live?"
" Dadimaa... that house that you and dadajii started your life in" replied Geet. Dadimaa understood and she said, " Bete, I will send over food and all the neccessities right away"
Geet sighed, " No dadimaa please..."
" Geet bete, you are my daughter and the eldest daughter in law of the Khurana family... and as long as I am alive, nothing will touch you or harm you..." replied Dadimaa. Geet was too tired to argue with anyone, let alone dadimaa.
She agreed and said her goodbyes to Dadimaa. She walked on with Nandini and they found a rickshaw waiting around. Geet and Nandini walked towards the rickshaw and Geet peaked inside saying, " Bhaiya... can you drop us to our address?"
She gave him the piece of paper and he nodded, " Aayiye didi"
Geet and Nandini rested their tiny suitcases on their laps as they sat down.
They reached the house and Geet took out the keys that Maan had entrusted her with when he had not lost his memory. The rickshaw parked outside the gates and Geet gave him money. Geet and Nandini helped themselves out of the rickshaw along with their suitcases.
" Geet didi, is this the house?" asked Nandini. Geet nodded and they walked on. They reached the doorsteps and Geet opened the door with the keys. The girls looked around the dark house.
Geet turned the light switch on and the house was illuminated by light... the same way that it had been since Maan and herself entered their home. Geet looked around the walls of the house of love and dreams.
Tears glistened in her eyes as she remembered everything to them entering the house the first time, them cleaning the house and making it their own until Maan got his rightful property and empire back.
" Nandini, your room is on the left and mine is on the right... everything is already set inside, if you need anything then tell me" said Geet. Nandini nodded and then the doorbell rang.
Geet opened the door to see Nakul standing at the door with shopping bags full of food and neccessary living items. " Geet madam, here is your stuff" said Nakul. Geet faintly nodded and she said, " Take it inside"
Nakul nodded and he went inside to put the stuff in. He came back out shortly and said, " Geet madam, if you need anything then please do not hesitate to call... Nakul is always there to serve the Khurana family..."
Geet nodded and Nakul exited the house. Geet locked and bolted the door. The girls walked inside and Nandini turned the light on in her room that was right across Geets.
She shut the door behind her and Geet took a step inside the room that belonged to Maan and herself. She shut the door behind her and she looked around one more time at the memories of their love... of how they both supportive and loving they were.
This room showed that Maan and Geet were each other's strengths... not weaknesses. Geet walked over to the bed and she sat down.
" Maan... you might have forgotten my presence in your life... but your heart still recognizes me as Geet... the same Geet you loved with all your heart and soul"
She looked at the hand prints of her and Maan. She didn't have any hope or energy to walk over and run her hands one more time over Maan's hand prints. She laid on the bed thinking to herself... what exactly was to be done.
She had not given up on her husband. Geet Khurana was determined to bring her Maan Singh Khurana back from the darkness that she rescued him from.
Maan was caught in a battle between his emotions, his mind, his heart... No one was winning. It was only irritating him even more. He felt a little regret in his heart but he tried to bury it inside...
That girl. That girl that had remained around him for so long... she was favored by everyone that surrounded him. And now she was his wife? She held that sacred position in his life? Why did he have no recollection of her?
His soul felt like it was ripping into shards... tiny pieces that no one could collect.
He had felt something in his heart as soon as he saw her. Her innocent face, eyes, and expression... When she was at the dining table, serving him food... he felt a little spark in his heart... But yet again, the ruthless Maan Singh Khurana took over him and buried all his feelings.
He was caught between to what seemed like a never ending battle... And Maan Singh Khurana never liked to lose. He never liked to feel weak... He kept everything in his control... just the way he liked it.
He needed to control this war inside of himself... he needed to get himself back together.
" Dadimaa, I want this baby... no matter what" whispered Geet as she laid in the hospital room trying to keep calm. " Geet bete! you can die after giving labor!" replied Dadimaa who was clearly worried.
" Nahin... yeh humari aakhri pyar ki nishaani hain Dadimaa... I want to give this to him before I go... no matter what!" replied Geet. She put her hand on her stomach and smiled a little.
" He will remember me through this baby... I promise..." added Geet. Dadimaa was about to say something until Geet gasped in pain. " Dadimaa!" screamed Geet. She was giving labor and the doctors and nurses rushed in.
" Mrs. Khurana please leave... she is in labor now!" said one of the doctors. Dadimaa nodded quickly and exited out of the room. She stood outside in the waiting room hearing Geet scream.
They were encouraging her to push and she tried so hard, but it was excruciatingly painful. " MAAAN" yelled Geet. Dadimaa was getting so scared now...
Nandini, Dev, Adi and Lucky came running in and Dadimaa quickly went to them. Nandini supported Dadimaa and Dev sighed in frustration... " Bro ko yahaan hona chahiye" mumbled Dev.
All of them could hear Geet scream and cry in pain...Dadimaa's heart was sinking thinking of Geet in there alone without Maan by her side telling her that it was going to be okay...
And that she was going to be okay.
Inside the labor room Geet was only screaming Maan's name. " Mrs. Khurana please try to push... please!" said Dr. Nikita. Geet tried her very last attempt at pushing hard and she tried to take deep breaths. But she was unsuccessful... it was too painful.
" The head is going to come out... please... keep holding on!" encouraged Dr. Nikita. Geet pushed hard one last time and finally, after a few seconds the head of the baby came out.
Geet breathed in relief and she felt sweat drench her body. She closed her eyes tightly for a second and tried to breathe. The only thing that made Geet open her eyes was the cry of her baby.
She looked at her baby that was drenched with her blood. " Congratulations Mrs. Khurana... its a girl!" said Dr. Nikita. Geet smiled and she said, " Can I hold my baby.. please?"
" Of course" smiled Dr. Nikita.
Dr. Nikita gave Geet the baby. Geet took her baby girl into her arms and her baby was crying... " Shh..." whispered Geet. Her eyes welled up with tears.
" We need to clean you and the baby up Mrs. Khurana" said Dr. Nikita. Geet nodded and she gave her baby to Dr. Nikita.
" Dr. Nikita we're losing her pulse... shes bleeding too much now and we can't save her life!" added one of the doctors. " I know..." added Dr. Nikita sadly.
Geet was in the ICU and Dadimaa was holding her granddaughter in her arms. She was wrapped up in a snuggly and warm pink blanket, sleeping soundly in her grandmothers arms.
" Geet didi..." whispered Nandini as tears rolled down her eyes. Dev put his arms around her protectively and she cried in his arms...
Dr. Nikita walked out of the ICU and Dadimaa went to her and she smiled at her baby girl. " She looks exactly like Geet" smiled Dr.Nikita.
Dadimaa softly smiled, " I know..."
" Doctor how is Geet is she going be okay?" asked Adi. Dr. Nikita looked down and sighed, " Im sorry... Geet is critical and unfortunately we cannot save her now"
Tears rolled down Dadimaa's eyes as she heard the words that she did not want to hear... but she only managed to say, " Adi, aapne Maan ko phone kiya?"
Adi nodded, " He is coming..."
Suddenly, Maan walking in and he said, " How is Geet?"
Dadimaa turned around angrily, " Maan Singh Khurana, YOU are asking if YOUR wife is okay?" Maan looked away from the upset glares of his grandmother. But his heart was saying to look at the bundle cradled in Dadimaa's arms.
He looked at the pink bundle in her arms and his heart was melting already. His mind was telling him to turn around and pay the hospital bill and go. But his heart was telling him to take a step towards the pink bundle.
He was caught in a war between his heart and mind again... and no one seemed to be winning...
" Apne dil ki baat suniye Maan..." whispered Dadimaa. Maan took a deep breath and walked towards Dadimaa. He looked at the tiny being inside that pink blanket... She was so innocent, so frail, so soft... so angelic.
She resembled Geet so much...
He raised his arms to take his baby into his arms. Dadimaa gave him his baby and Maan looked at her affectionately. His heart softened... his mind was refreshed... The war was over in one second...
And then...
Memories flashed of his forgotten past. His first meeting with Geet in Hoshiyarpur... when he signed her appointment letter. When he saw her in the office working late and sleeping and a strand of hair was on her face when she accidently fell asleep in the office. When she first came wearing that white sari and their first dance on Kurbaan hua... Their fights... their tears... their laughter...
And then... memories flashed of their confession in their first date... and he remembered the taveez that she had put on him on that date. He remembered their engagement... their fight...He remembered the promises he made to her...
And finally... he remembered the touch of her soft hands as they did their seven rounds in their wedding. The look of affection on her face when he was walking in front of her and when she was walking in front of him.
" Main jaldi se Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana ban na chahati hoon" whispered Geet. Her voice rang in his ears.
Maan snapped into reality and then he realized that he had forgotten the most important part of his life... Maan had forgotten his Geet... the very Geet that taught him how to love, laugh and live.
He looked at his baby girl and a tear rolled down his eyes. He held his baby girl close and weeped softly... Dadimaa put her hand on his shoulder, " Geet told me that you will remember everything once you hold your child Maan and she was right"
" Where is Geet?.. I want to see her" replied Maan.
Dadimaa sighed and looked down, " She is dying Maan... she is in the ICU..." Maan's heartbeats stopped for a second as he heard the words that he never wished to hear.
" No.. no... she can't die" added Maan shakily. " Shes dying beta, you're too late" added Dadimaa. Maan gave his child to Dadimaa and said, " No shes not dying... MY GEET is NOT dying"
Dadimaa tried to make him understand that it was indeed too late...
Maan ran into the room and Dr. Nikita looked at him with surprise. " Mr. Khurana! you cannot be in here!" whispered Dr. Nikita. Maan ignored her and looked at his frail and tiny Geet strapped upto machines with an oxygen mask helping her "breathe"
Maan quickly went to her side and took her hand, " Geet... Geet utho, please"
No response...
Maan knelt down and he kissed her hand repeatedly, " Please utho... main kya karonga tumhare baghair?" Geet was not responding and hot tears rolled down Maan's eyes as he pleaded her to wake up.
" Geet... utho... please... dekho, main agaya hoon..." whispered Maan. He was pleading her to wake up and he stood up and hugged her and he weeped softly...
" Please Geet" whispered Maan as his voice cracked.
Suddenly, Dr. Nikita looked and they were losing Geet's pulse... " Mr Khurana we're losing her pulse!" added Dr. Nikita. She called the other doctors and nurses and they all rushed in.
Maan broke out of the embrace and he looked to see Geet's breathing hard and the machine was slowly losing her pulse. His eyes darted to the doctors that pushed him aside.
His mind was clouded full of sadness, defeat and anger.
And then... Dr. Nikita sighed, " ITS TOO LATE!"
The machine slowly lost her pulse and she stopped breathing hard. Dr. Nikita took the oxygen mask off and Maan walked towards Geet with frozen emotions.
Geet opened her eyes quickly and then shut them. She only managed to softly whisper, " I love you... Maan..."
And then Geet drifted off into eternal slumber, leaving Maan empty, alone, angry, frustrated and lost.
" NO GEET" yelled Maan as he went to her side. He took her hand and rubbed it between his palms, " Geet utho.. please..." He begged her to wake up but Dr. Nikita put her hand on his shoulder.
" Mr. Khurana... Geet is no longer with us" whispered Dr. Nikita. She closed her eyes in sadness... this was too much to bear.
Maan let go of her hand and he dropped down to his knees with defeat.
Dadimaa, Dev, Lucky, Nandini and Adi came running in and they realized. Geet had left them all... she had left her baby girl to them.
Dadimaa cried in Dev's arms and Nandini in Lucky's arms. Adi removed his glasses and wiped his tear.
Geet's funeral was the hardest one to go through. Everyone was feeling lost and empty... they still thought that Geet was going to come down the stairs with her usual smile and attitude.
" Maan bete... aap aapni bachi ka naam kya rakhenge?" asked Dadimaa. Maan took his baby girl into his arms and kissed her forehead, " Mahi..."
Dadimaa softly smiled, " Humari Geet wapas aagayi hain... Mahi is exactly like her"
Maan softly nodded and he said, " This is our Mahi... Geet and Maan's Mahi." He strolled around with his daughter in his arms, talking to her softly as if Geet was right there listening to him.
And Geet was listening to Maan through Mahi... like she always did.
Oh God Im almost choking up in tears... I was feeling so upset writing this... I don't know about you... but this definitely jerked a tear for me and I wrote it...
